About Me

I am a mother of one, a son who is currently in the Uiversity pursuing electrical engineering.I live in Gatia Village which is a few metres away from Don Bosco Catholic Church. My home is located behind the animal slaughter house.
I am a Groceries seller outside Don Bosco Catholic Church in Makuyu, Murang'a South District, Murang'a County, Central Province.
I reached form four (up to high school). This was because when I was being brought up, girl child education wasn't that important as many of us were supposed to be at home being taught by our parents how to bring up a family in the right way. Only the boy child had the right to formal education unlike now that times have changed.
I started my business in 2009. The main reason that led me to do so was my son's education as the farm produce couldn't cater much on his education. University education in Kenya is rather expensive especially the technical courses. Luckily, my son was admitted through the Joint Admissions Board which isn't as expensive in comparison to the parallel programmes. I had to have extra income to ensure that my son sails through his education and make a living for himself.
I purchase fruits like oranges, mangoes, avocados to sell to students from Makuyu Primary School and Don Bosco Schools (Secondary and Technical College). I also sell them sugar cane and some packed ready to drink juice together with some biscuits.

My Business

My business is based outside Makuyu Don Bosco Catholic Church. My customers are mostly students from Makuyu Primary School and Don Bosco Schools (Secondary and Technical College).
I normally sell to them oranges, mangoes, avocados and sugar cane. Also inclusive are ready to drink juice and biscuits.
Students being my main customers normally come to my stand during break time to purchase the fruits. They mostly prefer my stand since I normally encourage them to work hard for them to join the university like my son. Also, I sell to them fresh fruits at a very reasonable price.
My business is profitable since with at least every purchase of a fruit, I gain 50% profit. I normally get them from the neighboring market in Makuyu town where its relatively cheaper. Also, from my small piece of land hence lowering the production cost.
The major set back the business faces is when the students are on holiday since they form a bigger percentage of my customer base. Also during the rainy season, my stand gets ruptured by rain at times.
In a month, I make a profit of Ksh. 6000 and I believe with the help of Zidisha, I will be able to increase my profit margins and see my son through his university education with ease..

Loan Proposal

Hi Zidisha Members. First of all I thank you for activating my account and giving me an opportunity to apply for a loan. I will use the loan to clear my son's outstanding school fees for this semester so that he will be allowed to sit for his exams late in August. He is a very bright student, always at the top in his class pursuing Electrical Engineering. He is in his last semester of fourth year and due to complete his degree in April 2014. Kindly accept my proposal and help me in educating my only child. Thanks in advance.
