About Me

I am a 23 year old Kenyan Citizen from Makongeni Phase 10, Thika, Central Province. I am the second born in a family of three. I come from a single parent, my mother. My sister Susan, is the first born and currently a hair stylist, my brother Mike is the last born and is in Class seven in Gatumaini Primary School.
I hold a Diploma in Business Administration from Thika Technical Institute. I cleared last year (2012) and currently working in Mathai Hostels as an assistant administrator.
Before securing this job as an assistant administrator, immediately after clearing my Diploma, I ventured into business. Equity Bank had just come up with Equity Bank Agents which were more like M-pesa in Safaricom. Equity bank had brought banking services to the locals in that one could do major transcations like checking balances, withdrawing and depositing cash from the agents. I talked to my mother to give me Ksh. 50,000 to st up the business, Ksh. 30,000 to act as float for my agent and 10,000 to acquire the license and other credentials. The rest 10,000 was to rent a shop.
I started operations in September 2012 and since that day up to today, I have even refunded back the "loan" my mother gave me and actually moved out of her house to go and start a life out there as a man on my own.
After securing the job at Mathai Hostels, I employed one person who I pay Ksh. 10,000 a month. Through my business and the one I am in as an assistant administrator, I have been in a position to do a lot with just an idea that anyone would have implemented and worked on it.

My Business

I own Kevin's Equity Agent and also I am an assistant administrator at Mathai Hostels.
The equity bank agent acts as a small branch of equity bank in remote areas or even in estates here in Kenya. equity bank is one of the leading banks in Kenya.
My Equity Agent is located near Mount Kenya University, just a few metres from the gate. My target market are mostly the students from the insitution. Many hostels around use Equity Bank as their preferred bank, hence students are mostly advised to either pay their school fees or hostel fees via Equity Bank. For the students that probably forgot to pay while in Thika town or from their homes, they opt to come to my agent. I offer fast and reliable services and the employee I have has even gone to seminars and workshops about Equity Agents, hence she is efficient and reliable.
Within a month, I get a profit of between Ksh. 15,000 to 20,000 minimum.
Apart from the Equity Agent, the work under Mathai Hostels also gives me some good amount of cash, hence with Zidisha, I will be at ease to pay back my loan faster and on time without even having to get my Volunteer Mentor Mr. Paul Kamande to remind me to do so.

Is there a way to leave feedback on this profile since we have not received any repayments yet? Does anyone know?

Kevin, I fully agree with Serene. It is time to begin making your payments as promised, or at least contact us to let your lenders know why not.

    Dear Lenders,
As part of my arrears follow up, I have today managed to contact Mr. Kamau. At first I didn't get to him but am glad I did so today. He lost his mobile phone a while ago and had to undergo a process to replace his line since he didn't have his P.U.K card that he bought his line with. This led him to go to Safaricom offices personally to get his line back. He is now set to commence with payment any time from now.
I will check back at him within a week or two to ensure he has done so.
    Thanks.

Hi Kevin -- Have you rescheduled your payments? Your schedule still shows three payments due Sep 21, Oct 21, and Nov 21 which have not been met.

Your borrower profile page has a place to reschedule payments. Ask the Zidisha staff if you need assistance with it. Mr. Paul Kamande can also help you.

I hope the situation of your post a month ago has been solved.

      Hi Mewesten,

I'm not sure what it was showing before, but on my page right now, it is showing that the amount due for Sep 21, Oct 21, and Nov 21 is 0.00. The next payment should be made by Dec 21.

      Hello Kevin,

Hope that you are doing well. How is your business doing? I hope that our loan has been able to help you. Just in case I'm not able to check in later, I just want to wish you happy holidays and a happy upcoming new year.

      Take Care,
      Serene

        Thanks, Serene,
Thanks for your note. It's hard to tell from the repayment schedule what's going on. Now the dates before Dec 21 are missing completely. How a "reschedule" event appears on the page depends on who posts it. Sometimes a reschedule happens and it's posted as such months after the fact -- I've had 3 of those in a week. The Zidisha website is becoming a disaster. Yesterday $13 just disappeared from my account ... yet another completely undocumented transaction tweak. I no longer get emails for my partners, but do get notices when there are messages from people i have not lent to. Confusion reigns.

    Dear Lenders,
I have opted to reschedule my loan due to this reason. The students from Mount Kenya University who form my broad customer base are on recess. I have also bought a printing machine that really took most of my capital. Now I am in rather a tilted financial position but am gkad to report that by next week I will be back in business and commence with my repayment.

Thanks for letting us know your situation and for formally rescheduling your loan repayments. I'm glad to hear that your setback is only a temporary one.
      Best regards,

    Hi Lenders,
Mr. Kevin Kamau has passed under my very close eye for a period of three to four weeks of extensive understanding of what Zidisha is.
As a volunteer Mentor, I believe it my duty to ensure that my clients understand fully how Zidisha works. I have equipped Mr. Kelvin and other group members with all the necessary information required to detail.
    Please fund his project.
    Regards,
    Paul Kamande,
    Volunteer Mentor
