About Me

My name is John Muya Kariuki. I am a married man and a father of two children. I reside in Kenya, Nakuru County, Bahati location, Bibirioni sub-location. My first son attends Victory academy and is in class three. I studied up to college level at a diploma level in global institute where I took tours and travel. I was then employed in Arizona Tours in Kiambu County for a period of 4 years. The job was nice as it gave me a chance to practice what I had studied but owing to the meager earnings and the need to satisfy my family and to fulfill myself I decide to come back home and try something new. The 15 acres uncultivated land that had been left to me by my parents attracted me to farming. During my career in tourism and travel I learned about the export business and this prompted me to get into the cut flower growing business. My introduction of the rowing of the flowers opened it to many other people and later the business grew in the region. I got the chance to buy from other farmers and sell it at bulk to the exporters who either buy it at home or I take it to them in Thika. I use the money to pay school fees, sustain my home and for personal development. The farming business, which I have been in for the last 10 years has been very successful and worth.

My Business

I am currently a farmer and own a 15 acre piece of land which I received from my parents. I am a maize farmer and use 6 acres of land on maize farming. I use 12,000 shillings on ploughing, 22,200 on fertilizers, 15,000 on topdressing, and 6600 on maize seeds. I also use 18600 on planting, weeding and harvesting. I harvest 120 bags of maize and sell each at 2500 shillings giving me a total income of 300,000 shillings. My annual profit is 225,400 shillings on maize.
I also grow cut flowers and sell them to Nature grown flowers, a flower exporting company in Thika, Kenya. The sale of flowers give me at least 100,000 shillings per year,, this include the amount I get from selling other people’s flowers.
I also keep 2 dairy cows and 50 hens which give me atheist 50,000 shillings of profit in a year
I am also in the car hire business and operate in Nakuru town. I either hire with the self drive method or the chauffer driven method, the self driven being more expensive. Each kilometer costs 15 shillings and security of 20,000 shillings (refundable).
