About Me

my names are Teresiah Wangari Nganga a mother of three children. I am a resident at Nakuru county Mwariki Pipeline. Iam a farmer whereby i do rear chicks for commercial porposes and grows crops such as maize, beans, tomatoes, onions etc.
In education i did my KCSE Exams in the year 2001. After staying for three years working on my parents farm, i decided to start rearing chicken which earns me dairy bread and other basic needs for me and my family.
When i was introduced about Zidisha, i felt very nice and if i would be lend some amount i would be able to extend business and do more .

My Business

My business is that i do rear chickens whereby with good management farmers can earn more from rearing both indigenous and exotic chickens.
More than 80% of farmers in Kenya keeps indigenous chickens. They are popular with consumers because of the good taste of their eggs and meat.
Exotic breeds on the other hand are faster growing and their egg production is higher because of selective breeding. In this case hygiene is of utmost importance when rearing poultry. It is therefore extremely important to avoid contamination of any sort, whether it is through the feed, water or handlers.Illness and diseases in chicken production are predominantly spread through handlers Via hands and shoes.. Biosafety measures can reduce mortality and disease spread by up to 60%.
Before buying the chickens ,i usually do some preperations. Wash out all feeders and sun dry before introducing the first water and feeds. Also , i do heat the room for two hours or so depending on the room size before introducing the chicks.
I use a small stone house approximatly (2.5*2.5)m for 200 chicksand cordon off one third of the room for the first two weeks with a wire mesh flame , gradually moving it back and iincleasing the bird floor area as they grow. I use 2 * 250 watt brooding lamps for entire four week period gradually raising the lamps to accustom the chicks to cooler temperatures by a few degrees every week.
Also clean dry bedding materials wood shavings or straw is needed.
Chick mash produced by a reliable animal manufacturer is also needed. Two battles of Effective Micro_organisms and Layers must also have access to a specially designated area where they can lay their eggs.
NB; When introducing my chicks to the brooming room on the first day, i sit back for an hour or so and observe them and are quite inquisitive and active and will start pecking happily as they investigate their new surroundings.
Cost of 200 day old chicks@77 TOTAL Ksh 15400
Cost of feeds Ksh 36400
Brooding costs at 15% of total cost of production Ksh7770
Total cost of production Ksh 5957.
Bird sales @culling stage@150 per bird Ksh30000
total eggs sales for 12mths (10316 *12) Ksh123792
Total income Ksh153792
Gross profit margin Ksh94222
Average monthly egg sales@140 per tray including expenses 10316

Loan Proposal

I am grand to my lenders for the first loan has taken me a step forward. I am applying for the second loan in order to add more chicks to my business and buy food and medicine for the chicken. I am also willing to expand the shelter in order to reduce congestion. The buying price of one chick is ksh 100 whereby i will buy 50 chicks for the ksh 5000 while the rest of the remaining amount will be used for buying medicine and the contraction of the house.

    Dear Lenders,

Today we heard from a contact of Ms. Nganga who updated us on her situation. It seems her mother has been ill, which has made it hard to make payments. She also has had some trouble accessing her Zidisha page. We are helping her regain access so she can hopefully post a comment for you and make a payment if possible.

    Thank you,
    Bayle, Country Liaison Manager

Hi, to my lenders. I am very happy for the previous loan helped me in a way that i was able to expand my business of rearing chicken. I managed to buy 50 chicks which are now two months old for i sold those that i had started my business with whereby i repaid the previous loan using the profit that i got from them. For this case request from zidisha and my lenders if possible borrow an amount of Ksh 20000 in order to achieve my goal. Thanks and God bless all.
