About Me

i am Rebecca Gema from tanners estate in Nakuru town. after clearing my high school i was employed as a sales executive for a pharmaceutical company where i was paid on commission basis. i moved on and started a small venture of buying fully grown trees and then re-sawing. i sell timber, off cuts, firewood and sawdust to customers at the site and make a small profit. Given a loan from zidisha, I intend to be buying trees in large quantities and take my products to the markets where they will fetch higher returns.

My Business

My source of income is primarily buying fully grown trees at and then re-sawing them. I then sell the by-products which include timber, off-cuts, firewood and saw dust to customers at the site. There is a lot of demand for these products in nakuru town because of massive housing developments. Since I do not have much capital, I normally sell at the site to brokers who transport them to the market and get more returns. The risk my business faces is when there is a lot of rainfall and our products cannot access the markets and when the government through kenya forest service suspends tree harvesting to allow trees to mature. A fully grown tea at government controlled forests is sold at 10,000/=. It produces timber worth around 17,000/=, off cuts worth 2,000/= , firewood worth 1,000/= and sawdust worth 500/=. The labour cost me around 5,000/= (power saw and operators) . I make around 5,000/= on a good day. Given a loan from zidisha, I intend to buy more trees and make profit so that eventually I will be able to afford transporting my products to the market.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders and all Zidisha management due to my illness that has affected my eye sight of which took me time to look for treatment, I could not be able to manage to repay my loans in time of which am so sorry for the delay. I yesterday discussed with my Volunteer Mentor Mr. Vincent Kenanda who called me yesterday and shocked to hear that have been sick all along, and he advised me to reschedule the amount of money that I can be able to manage to repay while am on recovery as the doctors confirmed that the medication am taking will be strengthening my eye sight nerves and will regain normally.

I have agreed to reduce my repayment to 500
