About Me

I am Patience Bosire a third born in a family of six. I live in Nakuru Town in an estate called pipeline apart called Machine.
I am a Laboratory Technician at Nairobi Road Secondary School which is a public Secondary school in Nakuru, Pipeline estate. I started my business five years ago and the reason why I started the business is because I needed some extra income and the passion I have towards dairy farming.
With the profits I get I have managed to buy better Dairy cattle as compared to the traditional once I had when I started the farming 5 years ago I have also built a good shed for them and am in the process of buying some land so that I can have more space for planting Napier grass.

My Business

I have been doing dairy farming for the last 5 years in pipeline area. I decided to do this type of farming to supplement my income. in Nakuru town we have been facing a very big problem of inadequate supply of milk due to the fast growing population in the area, as a result the inadequate milk supply gave me a market gap, which I filled by starting the business.I have been passionately operating the business as my part time job. I have a very big number of loyal customers which gives me a consistent market for the milk I supply milk to my neighbours unfortunately I have been faced by milk shortage. My customers prefer my milk due to the quality of my milk, most of the dairy farmers add water to the milk to increase the quantity and lowering the quality of milk this has led to the increase in demand of my product. Also I offer favorable prices and good terms of payment where my customers can pay weekly or monthly according to their preference. There are no risks involved in this business since milk is a necessity to most of the families. I have a desire to expand my business by purchasing three more dairy cows to increase supply of milk and meet the demand of my customers but it has been difficult due to inadequate finances, the financial institutions of Kenya charge exorbitant interest rates.Monthly I incur average expenses of 25,000 which are mainly used for Labour, fodder and water for my cows and have an average income of 60,000.

Loan Proposal

i have been using napier grass and green grass cut along the road but has not been producing enough milk. last week i visited a daily farm and learnt a lot about daily farming. i learnt that green foliage reduces milk capacity and with this knowledge and this being the harvesting season in Nakuru and most parts in kenya i will use the funds advanced to me to buy maize stalks and wheat straws then employ labour to cut and dry them after which i will preserve them. i will also buy daily meal to supplement these feeds. this will in turn boost milk production and thus my earnings.
