About Me

I am Francis Ndungu Waweru and reside At Bahati Nakuru. I am married with six children. I do dairy farming business. Currently, I have one dairy cow.My education level is up to form four and i attained division four which at that time was very marketable .Our second born daughter is in form two and i have very high hopes she will performe .The rest are in primary school .I have attended local courses on poultry farming as a private service provider (vaccination) Have a lot interest in politics even participated in bringing peace during 2007 post election skirmishes

My Business

I have one dairy cow which produces 10 litres of milk. I sell this milk at Ksh 30 per litre giving me Ksh 300 per day, and Ksh 9000 per month. This is used to pay the herdsman who takes care of the cow whom I pay Ksh 1500 per month. I also buy the feeds (processed ) to boost the production at Ksh 1500 per bag. The remaining money is the profit which amounts to Ksh 6000. I intend to buy a second cow which will increase the milk production given that the same herdsman would be able to look after the two cows at the same cost. This would increase my profit margin by Ksh 8000. A cow costs Ksh 30000. I also do other types of farming where I grow different plants. These include the maize, beans and vegetables. These assist as they are used as food for the family and the surplus is sold. During a good season I can harvest 20 bags of maize at the end of the year. I sell each bag at Ksh 1000 giving me a total of Ksh 20000. The beans are harvested twice in a year. In a good season, I harvest about 8 bags of beans per season. Each bag sells at Ksh 3000 giving a total of Ksh 24000 per season.

Loan Proposal

I intend to buy a dairy cow at ksh 25000. Ksh 10000 will be used to upgrade the current zero grazing unit and also buy the feeds to complement the nippier grass in my farm. The kind of cow will produce 15 litters per day. 4 litters will be used by my family and the rest will be sold at ksh 30 per litter. This will give me ksh 330 per day and ksh 9900 per month. Of this proceed, Ksh 3000 will be used to buy concentrates and cow lick while ksh 1000 will be used for veterinary services.

    Dear lenders,

My name is Traci Yoshiyama and I am a Client Relationship Manager in Kenya. I have recently spoken with Mr. Francis Ndungu and he was able to update me on his current situation. Unfortunately, Mr. Ndungu's wife has had ongoing medical problems with her stomach. His payments have been late due to medical expenses, but he hopes to make partial payments every month.

Mr. Ndungu, we wish you and your wife the best. I hope for a quick recovery. Next time I am in Bahati, I will make sure to stop by and say hello.

    Best to you both,
    Traci Yoshiyama

My name is Andrew Weber and I am a Kenya Client Relationship Manager for Zidisha. I recently visited Francis to discuss how he plans to repay this loan. He is in arrears because the dairy cow that he purchased with the initial loan died after only one year. Now he is struggling financially. He currently scrapes by through selling plots of land in the area every few months like a real estate agent, but he is still waiting for a large sale which will enable him to continue making payments on his loan. He plans to send the proceeds from his next sale to the Zidisha lenders. He hopes to do this by the end of January.

I am rescheduling because I have been in a bit of problem because of my mother's sickness. Then she passed away. That is why I could not pay. Then this year I had a problem with the payment of school fee of a child. She was giving the exam of KCSC. She needed a lot of money for the fee. I paid 13000 for that. It is not my wish my to be in a burden of debt in Zidisha so I request you to understand because I have no income and I thank you for the patience you have shown me.

Francis is a soft spoken man who has had some sad moments recently. He lost his ailing mother to cancer and she was laid to rest about two weeks ago. Francis’ mother had been admitted to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital for 3 months, bringing the hospital bill to about Kshs. 30,000. Funeral expenses also amounted to a whole Kshs. 20,000. His cow business did not flourish as he had earlier expected. The sky-rocketing cost of cow feeds made it expensive to adequately feed his cow and optimize milk production. Nonetheless, Francis is very determined to hasten his payments and regain track of the original repayment schedule. He said that these challenges were simply a passing storm and intends to finish his loan by December, as originally scheduled.
