About Me

My names are Edward Gitau Kamau, ID no 5583966 born on 15th may 1964 in Kenya. I started my education in Taito primary school in the current central Nandi district. I joined Kapsabet High school for O-level and mother of apostles seminary-Eldoret for A-level. I later joined Kenyatta University and graduated with a bachelor of education degree.
I am married to one wife and we have two children, Alpha and wincy. They are twins aged two years. I stay with my family on a two acre piece of land where I have already established a primary school. My wife is a trained and unemployed primary school teacher. I started the school so that she could be self employed. The earnings from the business are mainly used for expansions and improvements of the school.

My Business

The school runs from ECD (early childhood development) to standard five. It is the only privately owned primary school within a radius of 5 square kilometers. Currently the school has 90 pupils; 30 in ECD translating to 30 x 800= Ksh 24,000 per term and 60 in standard one to five; translating to 60x 3,000= Ks180,000 per term. The gross income from the school is approximately Ksh 204,000.
The school has five regular teachers with a salary of Ksh 5,000 per month translating to 5 x 3 x 50000 = ksh 75,000 per term. Stationary and other contingencies cost Ksh 30,000 per term.
The profit margin at the end of the term comes to ksh 100,000. This is a monthly income of Ksh 33,000. This combined with my net salary of Ks 25,000 comes to Ksh 58,000 per month.
To increase enrollment and consequent income, I intend to start a school feeding program. I also want to build a kitchen that will cost around Ksh 50,000 and equipments of a further Ksh 15,000. I am in the process of completing two classrooms at at a cost of Ksh 85,000.

Loan Proposal

I intend to construct more classes. The amount from Zidisha is not enough so I intend to supplement by using the school fees collected. This year, my school will be having its first national examiantion candidates (KCSE). This hopefully, will put my school at per with those that have already done the national examination. The consequence of this is that more pupils will now join our school hence a need for more space.my previous loan was used to lay foundation for two classrooms and i hope my current loan application will go through so that i can finish the construction before January.I would like my school to benefit my community and to this end am currently supporting six orphans free of charge.I thank zidisha for enabling me achieve this much- I look forward to more help from zidisha n other well wishers

Presently, it is extremely dry and hot. The parents are also preparing their farms for planting. Planting involve the purchase of seeds and fertilizer. An acre takes 50kg fertilizer, 10 kg maize seeds and 15 kg beans seeds. A 50kg bag of fertilizer costs Ksh 4,500 while a ten kilogram maize seed costs Ks 1,500 and 15 kg beans cost Ksh 1500. These two activities have strained the finances of the parents to the limit. Therefore, the school fees payment has gone down tremendously. I expect to be comfortable by the end of this month.

    Dear Zidisha,
I am sorry I could not pay my loan in time. My country is headed for an election in march of this year. I am running a school in an area that is prone to political related violence. This atmosphere has made most of my pupils to desert school and consequently my income has gone down. This situation has been especially bad in the third term of last year. However, the situation has steadily been improving since it is turning out that there may be no violence. the security officers have been increased and surveillance improved. I am sure of a great improvement in the next one month. Please bear with me.

Hi Edward. I notice you're behind on your loan payment. Did you run into an unforseen problem?

Yesterday, we were seated with my wife and children checking the progress of our loan's funding. My wife asked me what would make a person on one side of the world trust another on the other side of the world so much so that they would lend them money on the strength of their internet communication. I answered that this is God's way of bringing people together and needs to be cherished and harnessed by faithfulness and a sense of integrity. We feel the grace that is brought by the loans that we receive from you, our dear lenders. They are much cheaper and very convenient to manage. We were used to a lot of pain and suffering occasioned by high interest loans from mainstream banks and very complicated bureaucracy. We will never fail you.
    Thank you so much.

i am happy about the progress in funding my loan-the current confusion in the public schools, and the change of term dates for term one to February next year, will most likely make parents prefer private schools-i need to build more classrooms to take care of this demand- as i have said before i have a monopoly of running the only private school within a radius of ten square kilometers- God bless. Dear Lenders,
It is with a lot of pleasure to see your show of confidence demonstrated by the way you are funding my loan. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly.

    Dear Lenders,
The teachers' strike in puplic schools has come to an end today. The strike has been on for three weeks. This strike exposed the rot in our public schools and has enhansed the private schools' dominance in service provision. Now most parents would prefer to take their children to private school. This term alone, I have received 30 new pupils in my school. it is very encouraging, hence the need for further expansion.

    Dear Lenders,
It is so exciting to see people from far away showing so much confidence and trust. I really appreciate this. You showed a lot of trust when you entrusted your money to me the first time I took a loan with zidisha. It is so kind of you when you still show the same confidence this time I am taking the third loan.
The school has since grown and there is still a lot of potential. God has really shown His love.
    With God's blessings,
    Edward
