About Me

I was born in 1978 in Rongai district in Nakuru County. My first school was Kandutura primary from 1986 to 1993 after doing my primary certificate level. I didn’t manage going to secondary school because of school fees. I stayed at home for 3 years helping my parents after which I was employed as a house maid for 2 years. I got married after leaving the maid work. We have been blessed with 4 children, a boy and 3 girls.

My Business

BUSINESS HISTORY.
After marriage, I was permitted by my husband to keep a retail shop where I do get financial support. I struggled from very little stock of Kshs 2000 and now I praise God because my business has grown from tha range to over Kshs 150,000. My business is in Nafaka face II which is 1KM from Rongai town on your way to Kandutura just after crossing Molo river.

Loan Proposal

I intend to increase the stock to my shop by buying sugar, cooking fat, sodas breads, and because my business is located at remote area i do sell maize flour.

    Monica
I am new to the process of micro-loans. I am surprised how little information I am given about the nature of your business and its current and potential profitability. perhaps you could share a little more information about your sales volume and the cost (to you) of the goods you are selling?
I teach business and help students write business plans. Do you have somebody who helps you write up your business plan for Zidisha?

      Hi Ted,

You may be new to microfinancing, but I am real amazed by your exaggerated expectations. Did you read who Monica is? Then you know that she did not have the possibility to attend secondary school. And I would not expect any high school kid to write a business plan. I hope you are suffering from professional tunnel vision! The underdeveloped world is plagued by analphabetism. Quite a few borrowers did not finish primary school, Of those who do finish primary school, most don't have acces to secondary school by lack of means to pay for it.

As to help in writing businessplans you should realize that such help would not be free. I expect that only for the first loan (of 100 $) expected revenues will be calculated. Once a first loan has been successfully repaid, it becomes an asset on which a bigger loan can be asked for.
Detailed investigation would be far to expensive for small loans.

Then: a businessplan is not necessary: I have no doubt, that none of the men who came to America at the end of the nineteenth century and made it, wrote a businessplan. They saw the possibility of succes, grabbed that possibility and most of the time got their succes. They just sold for a higher price than they paid for it. That is how business was done. It is only the computerized world who needs businessplans, because it is so easy to find another company selling cheaper. But that is not the level on which Monica is operating her shop.

I recommend the american site www.kiva.org to your attention, I am very excited about it. I will not dwell on it on Monica's page here, but it is very instructive about problems in everyday life in developing and underdeveloped countries in the whole world.
In the meantime, I wish you lots of fun with your loans. It IS fun and rewarding to see how people are able to improve their lives with a little financial help, and letting them do it their way. It makes me happy.

      Hi Monica,
I apologise for the long text directed at Ted. I wish you lots of luck with your business.I hope that many customers may find the way to your place, and that you and your family stay in good health!
