About Me

My brother and I manage an electronic shop in Westlands Nairobi. We sell new and refurbished computers. My brother also does computer repairs both hardware and software. I am a qualified accountant by profession. I am in charge of the business finances that include book keeping. My brother is an IT graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Advanced Technology (JKUAT).
We started this business after completing and there was no employment coming our way. Armed with a good business plan we manage to convince our parents, friends and relatives to help us raise the seed capital for the business.
Prior to raising the funds for the seed capital my brother and I did a thorough market research that resulted into us settling for this electronics shop in the upmarket area of Westlands, Nairobi. We that the gadgets and computer business to be very lucrative in Kenya where everyone is trying his or her best to be tech savvy.
The business picked up well. Our customer base has grown significantly. I was invited to join Zidisha by a good friend. I have come across beautiful stories from enterpreneurs who have made it with the help of Zidisha. I am still thrilled by how this awesome program works. I cannot wait to get accepted into the Zidisha community and experience the kind of success other entrepreneurs are experiencing.

My Business

My brother and I own an electronic shop together in Westlands Nairobi. We sell personal computers both desktops and laptops. My brother repairs faulty computers. We also buy old computers, refurbish them and then sell. Our computers are on high demand because in Kenya today and especially urban areas services are quickly being automized including government services for example applying for Kenya Revenue Authority Pin Certificate is now done online. You can only apply for this certificate with access to a computer and the internet. This is just one example, there are countless other services done online. Therefore the issue of being tech savvy is no longer an option in Kenya and this makes our goods sell like hot cake.
We came to the realize that many or most of our customers come to our shop to buy computers that are better than the ones they already owned in other words they are upgrading to experience better performance. Afew of them easily afford the upgrade without any problems while the majority struggled. We then introduced trade in option where one would come with their already owned computers that they wanted to upgrade from, we value it and offer them a slash in the price of the computer of their choice communserate to the value of their previous computer. Since the introduction of this trade in option we have since seen a steady rise in the numbers of our customers.
We source our computers from bulk importers who sell ex-uk laptops at extremely low prices. Therefore our profit margins are high. Our costs monthly for running this shop is about US $ 350 and the revenue US $ 650. Therefore our profit in one month is about US $ 300. With money raised from Zidisha we will be able to stock more laptop computers because their demand is on the rise. As evident above we make quite some amount monthly and we are able to repay our Zidisha loan.

Loan Proposal

When we started out business we were making afew sales in a week. The reasons were simple we had not marketed our business well and we never stocked a wide variety of computer machines to meet the clients needs. We came to the realisation that more clients prefer personal laptop computers to desktop computers and this has made us decide to invest heavily in stocking laptop computers. Therefore my sincere appeal to the lenders us raise funds that will enable us stock more laptop computers that are moving. This make our business more profitable and allow us to expand with ease. Thank you in advance and may God bless.
