About Me

My name is Harun Githinji Ndungu from Kenya Central Province, Nyandarua County. I was born in 1981 In Mombasa Coast Province. I am third born in a family of Five. I am currently self employed in a small business dealing with petroleum products in Chobe Centre, North Kinangop Situated along Njambini - Engineer road. This area is fast growing and with the District headquaters at Engineer 3 km from Chobe. The need for more housing has seen the population and general development being on the rise. I started this venture having seen the same type of business do well in other places. After doing my research, i decided it was time to give it a try and after mobilising startup capital, I started. The business have been doing fine and with it i have been able to earn income that has been enough to take care of my needs. Part of the income has also been diverted to farming, an area i had interest in.

My Business

I want to expand my business which has shown great prospect of growth. The business is located within a rural setup (location). This place has no electricity and majority rely on other sources of energy. With availability of rental houses, there are many residents working in the neighbouring towns, Engineer, Munyaka and Njambini. Many people choose this location because of availability of cheap rental houses. I intend to open two branches to maximise sales. The areas sorrounding Chobe i.e Chuma, Gathaara, kamunyaka Thindi, Kijiko and other interior places all access this products either at Weru, Engineer or Njambini. Chobe is a Junction that servers other areas and the only reliable means of transport are the Motorbikes. These motorbikes also access fuel from far distance. I there fore find this as a market gap which i intend to fill. This areas has few Secondary Schools which i want to explore possibility of them being my large scale customers. I also intend to buy in bulk and this will help me attain economies of scale which will help me in turn less at relatively lower price than the few Vendors who sell this products from their shops. By doing so, i will have competitive edge over them. The Health officials have also sited these vendors as being insensitive to consumers by stocking such types of business with other foodstuffs.
Currently i sell on average 25 litres @ 115 i sell the same @ 140 With a profit of Ksh. 25. (25 x 25=625) Per day. This translates to a Gross profit Ksh. 18750 per month. and Net Profit of Ksh. 11,000. Its with this projection that i want to expand the business to include Kerosene There by maximising sales. Its with this view that i want to borrow a loan of Ksh 65 000 so that i can expand my business.

I want to take advantage of the projected increase of fuel prices which might be effected on 14th Dec by buying at the moment when prices are low and then after the increase by Kenya Energy Regulatory Commission, sell at relatively lower price than that of my competitors. I am still in the process of constructing an underground tank which will help great deal in storage.

After the tragic incident that i did report to you, I was forced to go back to my parents’ home in Weru with my family and currently I am jobless and am just living at the mercies of my parents and friends.
Business associates and friends organized a fund raising on 12th January 2014. The amount raised however mostly did take care of Hospital Bill for a neighbour who has since been discharged.
My loan repayment therefore cannot be as i had earlier anticipated something that is giving me heartache because at the moment am in financial crisis, all my stock and personal effects were reduced to ashes.
I am hopeful that soon I will be able to stand again and will be able to continue with my loan repayment however, this month will be very difficult for me. The area sub chief (Mrs Mary Njaure Tel 0721704625) who happens to be the one who signed my recommendation form is aware of my case and can be contacted if further clarification is needed.
May I take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your support so far.

I take this opportunity to say thank you Lenders for the kind help you have extended to me so far with my second loan. At the same time I would wish to report my sad ending of the year 2013.
It all started on Monday 23rd December 2013 at around 8.00pm Kenyan time. A tragic fire engulfed my business premises at Chobe town an everything was burnt down including neighboring business. It was so unfortunate that through this fire, I also lost one of family member Ann Njeri Njoroge, a sister in law who was a Form II student at Mumui Secondary school. One of the neighbours also escaped with burns and is currently admitted at North Kinangop Catholic hospital for medication.
Luckily and thanks to God my immediate family members who were at the time of fire inside the house just within the business premises that is my wife, and 2 months old son survived unhurt.
I am currently sending this email after gaining strength after emotional healing process. My sister in law was buried on 27th December 2013 at Githabai, may her soul rest in peace. This story was also captured by the standard news paper dated 25th December 2013.
I was forced to go back to my parents’ home in Weru with my family and currently I am jobless and am just living at the mercies of my parents and friends.
Business associates and friends have organized a fund raising which I am hoping that I will find footing again, this will be on 12th January 2014.
My loan repayment is due this month and this is giving me heartache because at the moment am in financial crisis, all my stock and personal effects were reduced to ashes.
The photo below is where i was operating from.
    Thank you

May I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Zidisha community and also lenders for for making my dream come true. With my first loan, I was able to restock my business which so far doing well. At the moment I am able to make on time loan repayment and still left with something small to make the business run. With this reliable stock, I have been able to attract new customers and maintain existing ones something I am proud of. This is attributed to the fact that my clients are most certain that they will not come to source my products and find stock out. With this progress, am sure that I will be able to complete my loan repayment on time or before and look further for future cooperation with Zidisha as partner. Thanks a lot, here we say Asante sana!
