Since I was 7 years I have had a passion for farming. I am highly motivated by people who not only aspire higher but also excel in food production and animal reeling. As a small scale farmer, I prefer to surround myself with people who believe in my goals and who can enable me apply my farming skills in my field of work. Currently I have a 50 by 100 piece of land whereby I have built a greenhouse, I have planted tomatoes and am planning to expand the green house very soon to include water melons and strawberries. Earnings from my business goes to improving my irrigation projects and purchasing pesticides, with additional funding I will be able to set up tanks next to the greenhouse which will significantly reduce the cost of irrigation.
I am an active farmer and have a part-time job as a shop-attendant at our town. The source of income that will be used to repay the loan will come from selling tomatoes in my greenhouse as well as from my part-time job. Currently, tomatoes are fetching a good price and their demand has risen in the past few months due to the upsurge of hotels in the region which may be attributed to the increased population. Tomatoes farming is highly profitable and the risk involved are very few, the biggest risk include lack of water for irrigation but currently I have made plans to ensure I do not run out of water. My typical monthly costs are around (US $ & 220)/Ksh 18,700 per month, sales revenue average around (US $ & 564)/ Ksh 48,000 per month while profits average around (US $ 344)/ksh 29,200 per month.
