About Me

My name is George Ng'ang'a and i am the first born in our family. I am a father of one son and a husband to my beautiful wife. I am a go getter and i can adapt in any situation. I have succeeded i many fluctuating environments and gained a number of achievements by turning unexpected obstacles into stepping stones. I have a knack about finding opportunities where people see none. I value idea and turn then into project, and projects into serial success. I come from a background where farming has been our livelyhood. My parents raised me by cultivating maize and paid my education fees with farming. Dairy farming and crop farming is our family's heritage and i will like  to be the preserve of that. I am a farmer and a business man and anyone who i has done business with before, i have given him a reason to do business with me again. I keep an eye on my target and when i go for results, i go for results.I graduated from the university of Nairobi in 2006 with a bachelor of science in mathematics. I started looking for a job while in Nairobi but there were frustrations at the time. It was like the trend that when one got out of college, life would take a sharp bend. I did not lose hope during these episodes. Instead, i moved on. I resorted to manual jobs which were paying very low since the white-collar jobs proved to be very difficult to get. I knew i would succeed one day. The money i got could pay my rent, transport, buy clothes and put some for saving. I worked in a factory where time was a laxary i could not afford. I worked from 6:00am to 6:00pm to make sure i could bring food to the table. I hussled a lot, fortunately; one day i was called for an interview for an accountant position i had applied a long ago and i passed. Life become easier and i could see myself walking through the corporate ladder when the company was liquidated and employees were put on retrenchment including me. Life became very frustrating to me especially since i could not not afford my status any longer. I sold some of my properties and relocated in Nakuru where i got salesman as a part time job. It was rewarding but i still wanted a job that would enable me to start a business. I had money in savings pending so that in case i stepped on an opportunity, i would invest in it. I longed to start my own business and expand it so that i would start a program that would be helping fresh graduates aspire their dream. Life had not been easy for me when i toiled and moiled to make to success. Eventually, i got a job as a secondary school teacher at st luke academy and the salary was better than salesman job. I still had an idea to start a farming project but i was not sure which would fit in my home area. That was when i discovered demand for eggs was tremendous and there were no enough supplies. I decided to venture into poultry farming of rearing chicken for layer. At my first entry into the market was very rewarding. I got order which even i was forced to buy elsewhere in order to meet their demand. In have been doing poultry farming since with my wife who helps me when i am at school which strikes to me as a golden opportunity in my area code. I have a diverse  market demand and my wife helps me to manage the business when i am at school. My biggest fear is not being able to sartisfy them. I am looking for a financial assistance to boost my project. I learned about zidisha through a friend who invited me but to be honest i was skeptical at first. I did not believe that zidisha would fund his business until his bought a huge stock for his retail shop. I am impressed beyond words for zidisha invention and i trust i will also be a testimony for how far zidisha is willing to assist our micro-business and transform them into 'who owns Kenya' level of business. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

My Business

Poultry farming is very time demanding and initial capital was very high. It costed me around Ksh. 70,000 initial outlay. This included buying 25 one-day old chicks, rearing them in a constructing a brooder for rearing them, chicken marsh, erecting a deep litter house and other expenses until they were fully fledged to lay eggs. Some chicks died but i was able to buy new ones for replacement. Each chick cost Ksh. 150.  I at present have 40 mature layers and i collect about 35 eggs per day. Each agg sells at Ksh. 15 hence i get Ksh. 525 per day. On weekly basis, i earn around Ksh. 2,727. After deducting the cost of about Ksh.1000 which includes layers marsh, i get a net profit of about Ksh. 1,700 per week.My challenge the limited space. Usually deep litter system is not efficient as i have vices such as cannibalism, egg eating, inadequate laying points and i face an imminent danger of desease outbreak using this system. It is also very difficult to do culling resouces wasted.I am plan to use battery cage system which i have learned from my own findings that it is more efficient in spite of the fact that it is expensive to instal. I have a ready market and it requires little marketing to get orders. My main customers are hotels, shops and individual customers who prefer to buy at a wholesale price. I hope Zidisha will walk me through until i become top distributer of eggs in our region.

Loan Proposal

I would like first to thank Zidisha for us an opportunity to fulfil our dream. When i get my loan, i will use it to build a battery cage system. I am sure at that level i will be able to rear as much chicken as possible. Each row will carry 10 hens in one column. There will be 10 rows hence 100 hens per column. The maximum columns will be 10 to 12 to ensure the space available is used to capacity. This project i estimate it around Ksh. 80,000, inclusive of watering system. Currently i have around Ksh. 20,000 pending in my savings for the project. I do believe i will make it and when i get this loan, my plan will be implemented soonest. I am having a shortage supply of eggs since demand for eggs has increased rapidly. I am very sure the input you will give me will fulfil my target. If you give me the loan, i will pay back in time because my business is already doing well. I am welcome all lenders to share with me this dream i have by your contributions and expertise wherever possible. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
