About Me

I was born on the 29th Sept., 1986 in Ramasha village, Nyaribari Masaba constituency Kisii county. I started schooling in Ramasha D.O.K primary school in 1991. After completing my primary school in 1998 I later joined Metembe SDA Sec. school where I completed my O levels in 1999 and later on joined Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVST) and pursued a Diploma in Cooperative management (Credit). I am a born again christian. I stay in Ngata Bridge-Nakuru adjacent to Sizzling waters Resort- Brown gate.

My Business

I operate a dairy farming business located in Ngata about 10km from Nakuru town. Having been a resident of Ngata for a good period of time, I realized that most people were building residential houses and moving into the area at a very high rate. As the in-migration continued, the demand for milk also grew. In my small residence I started a small dairy shop. The demand for milk grew gradually till it was overwhelming. I started with 20 litres a day but the demand grew to an average of 100 litres a day. I realized that having your own cows will provide me with high quality milk, give a constant and reliable supply and attract more customers especially the ones with young kids. From the savings of my business I was able to purchase one dairy cow. This has given me a real boost. The cow produces an average of 20 litres of milk per day. After a careful consideration, I have realized that having your own dairy cattle gives you a bigger profit margin. In fact the profit doubles.
Since I have my own plot of land, it will be cost effective. I intend to rear five dairy cows to enjoy the economies of scale. This will be a gradual process. The five dairy cows will produce between 90 to 100 litres per day. This will translate to between KES 4500 to KES 5000 per day from milk. From my research, one dairy cow will consume local feeds costing KES 300 per day.
The five cows will require about KES 1500 per day to feed. Since I will be there to provide labour, I will manage to make profits of between KES 3000 to KES 3500 per day from milk alone. Milk will enable me to sell other complementary items such as bread, sugar, cakes, beverages, eggs and the like. Though this looks like a dream, it is real. It is very achievable. I have done enough research from well established business associates.
I have a projection that I will make total dairy sales amounting to KES 7000 (from milk and other shop products). This will translate to approximately total monthly sales of KES 200,000. With an approximate expense of KES 2000 per day, I will incur monthly expenses of about KES 60,000 per month. In turn this will give me a monthly net profit of about KES 140,000. This is a very lucrative deal! With this amounts of money monthly I will move forward to acquiring a bigger piece of land and keep more animals on large scale. Milk has got ready market in Nakuru thus at no time will my produce miss market demand. If this happens then I will sell the milk to Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) and I will benefit from the bonuses.
Am certain that with the help from Zidisha, I will eventually achieve my dreams thus move towards self reliance. I will have self employed myself and at the same time create employment opportunities for other people.

Loan Proposal

I will use KES 15,000 to add up to my savings from the business to purchase a dairy cow. Already i have spotted a very good dairy cow. The cow is in-calf 5months and it is already producing approximately 15 litres per day. If i sell the 15 litres at KES 50, i will manage to get KES 750 per day. If i subtract feeds worthy KES 200, i will make a net profit of KES 550 per day. In a month i will make a cool KES 16,500 profit. The remaining KES 6,257 i will use to purchase some stock such as sugar, cakes, beverages and bread so that my customers will not need to buy milk from my shop then go to buy the other items far away. The distance between my shop and the next is about 2 miles. Am sure this loan will be a great fortune to me.
