About Me

My name is Benjamin Kipngetich Sawe I am twenty six years old and I live in Nakuru. I studied at Cheptigok Primary School and went to Kiborgok Secondary School. I ventured into business after I left school because the little resources my parents had could not allow me go on with my studies to higher levels though it helped me secure myself with the business which still helps me meet my daily needs.
The poultry business I ventured into involves the rearing of indigenous layers which I keep on free range basis. I have been doing this for at least two years and the business has been good ever since. I have been looking for capital to expand the business but had not been successful but that changed when I came across Zidisha microfinance which I am certain is going to help me expand the dreams I have for my business of poultry farming. I consider myself a hard working person and I never give up on anything that I have set myself to achieve in life. I believe that with enough capital the business will be able to put my dreams to the sky high levels and that is the reason why I am into Zidisha business and I believe my dreams will come true as soon as my request is granted.
I got the idea of poultry farming after attending several agricultural shows and most of the support came from my parents who gave the starting capital to buy the chicken I started with. I bought my ten chickens which brought me capital because after six months I was selling two trays of eggs, one egg is retailed at ten shilling each and this capital enabled me buy feeding troughs and I also built descent housing for the chicken. The luckiest part is that the business is at my village home therefore I have enough space and I also try as hard as I can to go on with the learning process about chicken so that I can be fully conversant with what the animals entail as a business.
With the business I have since been able to make it up to my parents since they are the ones who helped me start up the business, I have a believe that my future is bright enough with this business at hand and that with the support from Zidisha everything will just go on as envisioned by myself. I have also learned that business can be well paying because I have my life well planned and budgeted for as compared to some people who are in employment either in the government or in the private institutions. This is one of the reasons I have decided to try and get additional capital to invest more in the business.

My Business

My business is located in Nakuru and my daily expenses amount to around six hundred shillings per day. I need the layers mash to feed the chicken and occasionally I require some medicine to help in preventing infections without which the chickens would die. I have also employed someone to assist me with the rearing of the chickens which are one hundred in number. He also helps me with attending to the chicken while I go out to supply the eggs to my customers.
Every day I sell three trays of eggs which fetch me around nine hundred shillings and out of this amount I pay my assistant two hundred shillings each day. Overall, on a good month I collect revenue of around eight thousand shillings.
The downside in my business comes from the fact that while I require money to source for the chicken feed and medicines, the shopkeepers from the nearby shopping centre are constantly buying the eggs on credit and at a very low price which is bad for business. This has caused me to consider marketing my product much farther away in the towns in a bid to fetch better prices and beat the problem of selling on credit. Therefore, if I could get some capital to inject into my business I would be able to finally take my product to a much better market and increase my income. The way to do this is by buying a motorcycle which I will use to transport the eggs to the market and also transport chicken feed which is cheaper from the town.
Due to the fact that I rear my chickens on free range basis, they are constantly coming in contact with chickens from neighbouring homes and this increases the chances of them catching infections. This has prompted me to consider confining them to my compound by way of erecting an enclosure made of wire mesh. This of course requires capital and it is my hope that by reaching out to Zidisha I will finally be able to actualize that idea.
If I am able to implement the various ideas that I have for my business then I will have made significant steps toward putting my farm into full utilization and ensuring that my own future and that of my aging parents has better prospects and is brighter. I will also be in a position to service my loan on time so that I can manage to qualify to be awarded more money and grow my business further.
Thank you very much in advance as I await your favourable consideration of my loan application and a great start to what I foresee to be a great partnership between myself and Zidisha.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan applied to boost my business by increasing the number of chicken that am rearing thus boosting my business. By doing this i will be able to produce more eggs and chicks, meeting the demand of all my clients and earn more profit from it. I will use part of the profit earned to repay the loan and the rest to pay my expenses and savings. I am sure the loan will do marvelous to me and my clients.
