I am a married man aged 47 years with two daughters aged 17yrs and 14 yrs all still in school. I am a teacher in a private school in nakuru and i also do business in cereals. i buy maize and beans at harvesting times and also grow some in a small piece of land in bahati. i started the business to supplement my income. from the money i obtained from the business i bought a plot in gilgil which i intend to develop and expand my business. part of the income i used to send one of my daughters to school last year.
At harvest times i do buy cereals from farmers, treat them with preservatives and stock them awaiting for price to shoot up and then resale them in gilgil town. the business in gilgil town especial the cereals one does well because the area is semi arid and hardly produce enough harvest to sustain the locals. my business faces transport problems especially during the rainy seasons because the cost of hiring a pickup or a lorry to transport them is usually costly. storage sometimes posses a challenge. the purchase cost for 40 bags of maize at harvest time usually cost kshs 80000 and transport ksh 10000 and storage do cost kshs. 6000 for three months. miscelleneous kshs 4000.
After storing them for 3 months i resell them at kshs 3200 par bag.
i will use the loan to increase my stock of cereals and pay for the stall which i am currently using.i will also upgrade my means of transport to reduce the rate of costs incurred on the same.part of the cash will be used to advertise my business thus increase my yields.
