    Dear lenders,

My name is Traci Yoshiyama and I am Zidisha's Client Relationship Manager in Kenya.

Gilbert has started working as a motorbike driver again, but has not been able to use his own bike. Unfortunately it has broken down completely, beyond repair. He is currently using someone else's bike. Work is slow, but he continues, for finding work as a casual laborer in Githunguri is even slower.

Gilbert was able to give me a lift to visit another borrower last week and I am happy to now know that when I go to Githunguri I have a driver I can count on.

hey zidisha, the reasons why i want to reschedule is because my motorbike broke down completely and now with no other source of income it becomes hard for me,reason being i am dealing with constraction works where i work as a casual labourer and earns four hundreds shillings which are only enough for my living.I need more time to try whether i can safe little money from my savings because i have been searching for a customer to sell my motorbike without success.i am trying all i can to pay back the money although life is really hard on me.i propose a two months grace period.

Hello, my name is Traci Yoshiyama, Zidisha’s Kenya Client Relationship Manager. I am currently visiting Zidisha borrowers in and around Nairobi.

As I sit with Gilbert Githua in his apartment in Githunguri, a look of anguish washes over his face. Enduring recent mechanical problems with his motorbike, Gilbert has been unable to maintain his business as a boda boda driver. Although he is able to take odd jobs assisting at construction sites in Utawala, the instability of income has taken a toll on his finances. With the responsibilities of paying for rent, school fees, food for his family (one son and a baby on the way), and bike repairs, Gilbert was unable to make his first monthly installment. And although his bike has been returned from the shop, engine problems still persist. Without the money to pay for repairs, Gilbert’s bike cannot be used for business.

Although he is a man with a heavy heart, Gilbert still holds onto a lot of hope. His wife is currently taking training courses at a local salon. When finished, she will aspire to get a job as a hairdresser and when enough money is saved, open a salon of her own. With patience and careful saving, Gilbert is confident that with time, he will be able to pay back his loan. I wish you and your family the best, and I thank you for welcoming me into your home.

Hello Gilbert, I hope they will fix your bike as soon as possible so you can continue with your business. Have you thought about making a reschedule of your loan? I think it would be possible to lower your repayments or make grace period longer (or something like that). The status of your loan will not be "paid late" but "paid late (rescheduled)" which will be better for your next application (in case you woul like to have another loan). All the best!
