    Dear Geoffrey,
Congratulations for completing your first loan! Did you manage to buy a fridge already? If you need another loan to further improve your business, I would be happy to lend again.
    Best wishes,
    Sven

My name is Andrew Weber and I am a Zidisha Client Relationship Manager in Kenya, where I have been visiting borrowers in the Naivasha area. I recently paid a visit to Geoffrey at his hotel (not the kind you sleep in – in Kenya a hotel is a small café open during the day).

Geoffrey has big plans for improving the efficiency and quality of his business. He wants to buy a refrigerator to keep his drinks cool on hot days for customers. This would give him quite a competitive advantage as fridges are not common in hotels in the area. He wants to return to serving meet, which he used to do years ago before it became too expensive. Geoffrey also wants to save money by buying food directly from farms instead of distributers in town. Since the third option will pay the most immediate dividends, he is pursuing that first. The farm where he will source his food from is located 20 km from his hotel, so he is using the loan to buy a motor bike to make the trip to and from the farm. He estimates he will save about $1 per item buy buying food straight from the farm.

Geoffrey has four children, though one passed away in a car accident. His surviving children are ages 16, 10 and 6. Geoffrey hopes sourcing his food directly from the farm will be the first step to improving the profitability of his hotel and better supporting his family.
