About Me

I am the first born in a family of six children. Being a girl and having 2 younger brothers after me, I used to do a lot of house chores to help my mother. I schooled up to class eight where I could not continue because already my younger brothers had caught up with me. Instead, I was taken to a local polytechnic to study sewing. Before I could graduate, I got pregnant and got married. I was in the marriage for a few years, but I left because it was abusive. I was employed as a house girl by which I worked for many years. One day, one of my younger brothers called me and told me that he wanted me to stop working as a maid. He gave me KES 1500 to start selling secondhand clothes. I started hawking them in the streets and my business grew very well in a few months.
I have 1 child, a girl. She also has a son. My daughter is working with an IT firm but I want my grandson to be a businessman when he grows up. I love spending time with him during my free time.

My Business

I started my business by selling ladies secondhand clothes and mostly inner clothes. I did that from the streets until I was able to rent a room. When I moved from the streets, I stopped doing the secondhand inner clothes and started doing new ones for both men and women. These clothes are always in demand, especially with ladies. Ladies are always buying clothes and that's why I have a larger stock of ladies clothes than men's.
My stock cost is average and the profits are good. The only issue is when sometimes it takes long to clear some stock and it becomes like a dead stock. I used to pay school fees for my daughter and her son, but since she started working, I use the profits in growing my business, and paying my rent both for home and the business premises. I am also saving to buy some piece of land for myself.

Loan Proposal

i want these money to add more clothes to my stock. this is due to high demand from my customers. these clothes are more of women and children clothes. am looking to increase the stock for about $220.
this will enable me get more profit and certify my growing clientele. my life style will also improve. i am expecting my profit to go up by 40%. that is by approximately $250 per month.

Only made one loan payment. No explanation for delinquency ever posted. Maybe has severe financial problems but she owes it to lenders to inform them of her situation.

Mariam paid off her loan perfectly. I would gladly lend to her again and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you for letting us know. Can you remind her to contact Zidisha and amend her payment schedule if this happens again, as that will help her to keep her good credit score

Perhaps you should consider giving your dead stock to someone else to sell for a commission. Since it is old stock to you, you could reduce the price and give someone else a chance to earn something by selling the clothes in a different location. By selling your old stock at a reduced price it will benefit you by giving you funds to buy something that will sell and give another person an opportunity too. Best of luck to you with your new loan.

Firstly let me thank you for the loan you lended me. I managed to increase my stock of clothes in my shop. this gave my customers a wide range of selection whenever they visit my shop. and also attracted more customers. my profits have increased despite the drop in business due to politics in our country which affected most businesses especially small business enterprises. i have managed to purchase a small piece of land although i have not yet finished paying for it.
