i am a graduate of Moi University, with a degree in Education. The third born in a family of two boys and three girls. since completion of my education in 2012, i have been teaching in different high schools.i have a basic income from my teaching career but have an interest in agriculture. coming from a plce where vegetables are the staple food,i have been practising agriculture.i grow traditional vegetables in my family land and sell to the locals at an affordable price. the demand has been increasing over time hence the need to increase yields. apart from that, i want to purchase quality seeds and start my own seed bed. i believe this will open the market further for me as i also satisfy the basic needs of my neighbors and family.
my business makes an average of 250dollars per month, having paid the statutory deductions. most of it goes to irrigation, replanting and transport.monthly, i am able to save 62 dollars. with today's changing trends, more and more people are going for traditional foods. this gives me a ready and willing market. i ensure delivery of products on the promised date and time hence winning a longer client list. the dry season is among the toughest times that my business faces, i however curb this by always storing water in tanks which i use to irrigate the crops as deemed necessary. incase the revenue generated is not as expected, i will use my monthly salary from my teaching job to make my weekly repayments.
I intend to use the loan to purchase more seeds, and clear more land for farming.with the ongoing rainy season, the demand for fresh vegetables has gone up.I want to maximise on this increased demand by producing more produce. This will increase my profits and enable me to create employment by hiring more farm hands.
