My name is Vincent Wanzala, I am the third born in my family. My mum is a small scale farmer while my dad is a retired primary school teacher. I went to Kabwodo primary school, and then proceeded to St Mathias secondary school where I completed my secondary school education. My dad having retired can not afford to pay my college fees, and since I can not get any job, I have decided to do agriculture to save for my education. Things look tough but manageable. Currently I have 1/2acre land with healthy tomatoes. I am looking forward to lucrative revenues this second season. I am a Bukusu from western Kenya. We have male circumcision as one of the major cultures, there is also traditional Bukusu dance only done during special occasions. I am social and outgoing and so I like meeting new people and making new friends.
I do tomato farming and so the mojor products that I provide for the markets is tomatoes. I farm my tomatoes in open field and I always minmise the use of pestcides in my farm. The demand for tomatoes has always been high since most farmers in my area fear tomato farming saying it has a lot of work. There is a lot of opportunity as many people get there supplies several kilometers away from my village. I choose this business because it was the most profitable business, and I was near source of water. The soils also lack blight and so it supports this crop. I spend $100 on labour and manure. My average revenues are $180 per month. I use my revenues by supporting my family given that my dad is retired and my mum has no stable source of income and saving for my university fees.
Hello lenders, due to global warming rains have reduced and water is always scarce. As a young farm with future generation in mind,I would wish to introduce drip irrigation system in my farm to save water and increase efficiency for production in the farm. kindly support me honorable lenders.
