About Me

I am Ruth Opollo aged 23 years old live in a small town called Amagoro about 7km from Malaba town which borders Uganda. I have my small boutique around Amagoro town, being raised up in the city, I came to discover a job opportunity after completing my first diploma having a hard time trying to survive I decided to try and open a boutique to make clothes accessible in the region because they have to use transport to the nearest towns whereby they have to spend a lot. In the long run I managed to start earning a living for myself that can assist in paying some bills and have hope to continue with my studies .There is a huge ready market for the clothes at very competitive prices in this region due to the other big towns being far.

I have not gone so far with my education because of a lot of financial instabilities in my family, my dream was to have a bachelors by the time I turn 25,so I decided to venture into the business to be able to raise school fees for my self and to supplement my family income. Since I had no one to help me, I started with selling sandals to friends via door-door, after a while by business orient friends advised me to buy a good phone and start selling via whatsapp from there I managed to get little capital to start selling from a shop and I also added clothes on my stock having challenges in getting enough stock and avoiding chipping in the business to try and assist me in some basic needs I believe and trust that Zidisha will give me hope to fund my boutique to grow to another level so that I be able to go start my bachelors. Thank you.

My Business

I came to start my business using the little pocket money I saved for my upkeep in the college and some other savings I had from basketball allowances. My business is situated just directly opposite JCM Investments in Amagoro town. The goods I provide include Shoes, ladies and men cloths. We have so many people living here and the major towns are a bit far hence the demand for clothing is so high that I can not even managed alone to meet this demand. But with the Zidisha I know my profit will increase by about 50%.
It was somehow easy to start as compared to other business because of the little capital I had and the high market demand also considering that most of my friends are drivers along Mombasa to Kampala highway so I am privileged to have no transport costs from any of the towns where cheap second hand cloths are sold.

I started my business with only 250$ by purchasing some second hand clothes. At first I realized little profit per week amounting to 25$ .I make about 100$ when my sales are doing well I also have a part time job that pays close to 80$ a month the two incomes will help me pay the Zidisha loan on time and also expand my business to be supplying other products to small scale business persons. My passion is to be a role model to most ladies/the girl child who in this region resolve to getting married when there are financial instabilities in their families and live in poverty all their lives I hope I will one day make a difference and help them realize you can be who u want if u put a little effort and commitment. The loan will help me to purchase at quantity price of the clothes and
Shoes to serve my customers, make good profit and also sell as a whole seller.

Loan Proposal

My first loan from Zidisha will help me to meet and expand my business to other demand from my fellow youths. I would like to introduce second hand shoes for ladies and men in my stock. secondly I would like also to increase my stock because right now I am known vendor around the are hence there is increase in the number of customers.
1. Ladies clothing (second hand) coasting 50$
Those of my siblings and my community will change for the better.
With the loan from Zidisha I expect my customers to meet their required quantity and quality for their demand and as a result my income and profit will increase by about 30%. This is encouraging because am just an aspiring student and by the time I completed my studies I will be able to support myself and my family and the community at large hence lifting the standard of living.
