I am aged 27 years old man. Am the last born of a family of eight siblings. My parents are not very well up and thus our upbringing was a challenge. I went through primary school and then secondary school through the help of bursary fund. I completed my O level in the year 2007 and got a grade of C plain. Due to financial conditions of my parents, I dint manage to join college to further my education. I decided to practice horticultural farming in order to be able to meet my financial needs. After staying home for 2 years doing horticultural farming, I decided to leave home to Nairobi to look for employment. I was employed in a kiosk where I managed to save money which enabled me start my business of selling kerosene/ paraffin for cooking and lighting purposes. The business is located in Utawala- Githunguri area
Utawala- githunguri is middle/ low income areas whereby about 30 % of the resident can’t manage to buy cooking gas or have electricity in their premises. Therefore, I took that opportunity to install kerosene pump which will enables me to supply kerosene for cooking and lighting purposes to the less fortunate within the area. The main customers in the area buy kerosene in small quantities therefore; I make sure that I provide them with the necessary containers like used bear bottles, water bottles and polythene bags. The biggest challenge with my business is the location; it is located within a residential building which is risky in case of fire. Therefore, if I manage to get funding am planning to relocate this business to a more secure area in terms of the people residing in the building.
If i get my get my third loan, there are several things that i would like to do if the money will be enough. First i will by another pump, add stock to my existing business, brand the shop well so that to attract customers. Secondly, am planning to open another branch at mihango shopping center. This therefore means i need to a rent another room, buy another pump and employ a second employee to run the business. However, this will be successful if the money applied for will be enough.
