I am 24 years of age entrepreneur residing at Uthiru a few kilometers from the capital city Nairobi. I always had a passion for opening up electronics, which contributed to the many number of beatings I got in my childhood. This however, did not deter my passion for electronics in particular computers. My uncle who used to have the only computer in our neighborhood became my guiding light and by the age of seven I had learnt how to use a computer. I have experience in numerous cyber cafés and this motivated me to open up my own computer services business.
I studied my primary education at Mama ngina Primary School at Kinoo and then later pursued secondary education at St. Josephs High School in Githunguri. After that I did some computing classes to gain a certificate plus a certificate in tours and travel. In 2010 I joined Maasai Mara University to advance in a degree in Economics.
I have one daughter of a month old called Felicia who plays a big part in helping me wake up each day hopeful for a better future by her smile each day. I want her to have an education and have her dreams fulfilled with me to support her.
In my pastime I am fond of listening to BBC documentaries which I do not miss. They help me in advancing my knowledge and the business segment gives me insight into certain perspectives of business. Most of my friends think it is lame but it helps me though not in the immediate future but later on and also help others.
When I started my business I did not even have a printer, I only had a laptop but now I have a fully furnished office. Plans for expanding and open up more of them and capture the ever growing computing industry pokes me to implore your help.
My business is Margi Computer Services at Racecourse road OTC. I provide a wide range of services such as: photocopy, printing, scanning, binding, typing, designing and sale of envelopes. I also provide consultancy on computer related issues on software and hardware.
OTC is very densely populated as we get customers from the city council, Kamukunji police, St. Peter Clavers Church & School and people from Gikomba market. It is also a major bus stop for travellers from Kasarani, Kisii, Kiambu, Kayole e.t.c. These services help them because people now require type written applications, photocopy for future reference, designs for ;wedding cards, business cards& banners ,, binding to make books out of papers and scanning for customers to deliver their documents in soft copies.
This business holds what I love about computers and I serve customers hence meet new people and forge friends all the time. I get information everyday and know how to run my business effectively. My typical costs are
1. Rent
2. City council registration
3. Electricity
4. Purchase of; photocopy papers, lamination papers, and binding materials.
Most of my profit goes to my daughter and my sister for their upkeep. The rest I save for business improvements.
The money will be used to buy inventory for the expanded business. The inventory includes a new printer that costs 54 dollars at Jumia Online Shopping and a new computer costing at 45 dollars. This was prompted due to the increasing number of customers in need of our services and hence I will employ another person to offset the demand. The benefit will help in helping my mum finish her house and for me to start building mine. It will also help the other person who I will employ to help me in the day to day activities and partly start advance my education.
Currently the profit ranges from 10,000 a month to 15,000. If I get the requested amount the profit I expect will increase to 20,000 all cost set aside.
