My name is Julia Wanjiku Njoroge. I was born and brought up in Meru,Kenya. After my O level education we relocated to Maraigushu Nyandarua county. While at there, I joined a college to get some knowledge in computer studies for 1 year. After qualifying the computer course, I started looking for an employment in various institutions within Nyandarua and in 2006,I got a place in a Horticultural firm in Ol-Kalou.I had worked there for almost four years and after my contract lapsed, I relocated to Kiambu town for another opportunity in myself employment business. After my research, I decided to start self employment business through selling second hand clothes with the small capital I had through the saving from the salary payments. I had to start this business since I am the bread winner in my family as well as to my elderly parents. Both of my parents and my younger siblings are depending on me, together with my two children who are currently in secondary school and primary school respectively here in Kanunga –Kiambu County.
My business is located at Kiambu town in the Central part of Kenya. I am specialized in selling second hand clothes. Kiambu is a busy town especially on the market days with a wide range of market opportunities for second hand clothes also known as “MITUMBA” in Swahili word. This is because there are a lot of inhabitants who mostly lives below a dollar in a day thus making the demand and the needs of second hand clothes. The clothes are usually sold in bales of between 15 to 25 kilograms depending on what is packed inside. The clothes are imported from various countries and especially the West countries. I usually choose the items depending on the season. On cold spells I choose to sell heavy woolen jackets , I sell shirts,t-shirts and light ladies tops during sunny seasons. My customers prefer to buy from me because my clothes are cheaper good quality and neat. I usually buy my bales from direct importers in the city of Nairobi where they are cheaper compared to buying locally. This makes me to give them a better bargain. From the sales I make manage to get Ksh 6.000 per bale being the net profit. The only challenge my business faces is lack of enough capital to stock better and quality second hand clothes, but with Zidisha platform I will be able to overcome all this barriers and stock more for my customers. Thank you and it is my prayer that with your loan my business will grow more.
As i have described above, the woolen jackets bale currently costs USD-94.80.This will improve my second hand business as we are currently on the cold season in our country-Kenya.Many customers have been asking for the heavy jackets, but I am promising them to be checking the items from next week. Please my worthy Lending panel and the entire zidisha team,Your kind assistance will be of great impact to my business and to my dear customers as we will have saved my future business and the customers.Thank you all.
