About Me

My name is Samuel Munyau but I am known as Sammy by my peers. I was born in Kitui region of eastern kenya. My parent were very poor and they struggled a lot to raise our big family of 7. I am the 4th born and I went through serious hardships on my way to adulthood.

I went to school up to primary level and then proceeded to secondary school but unfortunately my parents could not afford to pay school fees mid-way into the secondary education.

My uncle who lives in Mombasa was kind enough to take me in and I joined him as a young adult where he put me in charge of his electrical shop in mombasa town. He taught me how to do the business and later assisted me to open my own stall where I sell electrical goods.

I am married with two children one aged 8 and the other one 5. I work very hare to ensure that my children lead a much better life that mine.

My Business

I own a small store where I sell domestic electrical goods such as switches, lamps, tube-lights, cables etc. I decided to start this business since I had gained a lot of experience in this area at my uncle's place when I was working for him.

I normally get my stock from distributors and then retail them at my shop. the future looks bright since the construction business in booming in the country and the demand for these items is equally high.

I make an income of about $300 per month and my expenses are about $120. My main component of expenses is rent and utility bills. I use the balance to feed and educate my family.

Loan Proposal

I will spend my initial Zidisha loan to stock energy saving bulbs. The bulbs are currently on high demand and I want to cash in on this wave. One bulb will cost me about $1.50 and so with this money, I will be able to buy 5 dozens of these bulbs.

My profit normally ranges from 20 - 25%. I am hoping to clear the stock within 6 weeks. This will boost my income and grow my income which will go a long way in securing my future.

I wish to reduce my weekly payment to KES 200 due to low business volumes. I hope by business will pick up in the coming days and revert to my original installment of KES 400. I kindly request for your understanding.

      Dear Samuel,

Thank you for your message. Please not that Zidisha team does not always pick up the messages from the discussion board and that it needs to be a borrower who reduces the installments himself/herself. You can do so by logging in to your profile and changing your amounts in the 'reschedule payment' section. Thank you.

Best of luck with your business,

      Hana
      Zidisha team
