About Me

I am the first born in a family of three girls and one boy. My mother was the first wife and we all lived together in a happy home with both parents until when our third sister was born. Trouble started and disagreements between my parents was the order of the day. My father brought another wife to give him a boy child. By this time my mother could not take any more abuse and ran away while pregnant with our last born brother. Life was very difficult without our mother, and my sisters and I stopped going to school because there was no money to waste on "prostitutes," according to our stepmother.

Currently I live in Nakuru with my husband, two dependents and three of my children. My dream is to live a self-sufficient life where I do not have to beg for bread and my children fail to go to school due to lack of tuition. Also I want to support my mother, who is still languishing in poverty due to ailments and lack.

After our mother left, I used to sell doughnuts for my stepmother and I knew at a young age how to account for whatever I was given to take to the market, because failure to do that would mean no food for the whole day as a punishment. I knew how to account for everything I sold and even give back change to the clients who bought from me.

My Business

The business helps me and my family meet our basic needs. I decided to start this business because it is convenient: I do not travel to go and sell. I only travel when am going to bring the product for sale. Whenever we want to eat fish, I take from my stock and pay it back in order to avoid losses. I do not need to handle very cold water in the morning, as I did before when I ventured in vegetable business, which you have to wash and cut for customers to buy.

My biggest challenge is the city council, who gives me hard time because I do not have a license for the business. Another challenge is the lack of a stall where my customers can get me whenever they want fish. I sell on a veranda and some neighbors are not very happy with that. They say I am obstructing their way and their children do not have enough space to play.

My customers are everybody who eats fish, buy-passers and some neighbors too. My goal is to be a store owner (wholesaler) who supplies fish to the retailers around and far, and being able to have stock always for my customers whenever they want to purchase fish.

Loan Proposal

The loan basically is for expansion of my business. I want to start bringing a variety of fish, e.g. tilapia and Nile perch.

l will purchase 50kg of Tilapia at the cost of $50, and l will also purchase 40kg of Nile perch at a cost of $40.

This loan facility will help me have varieties of fish, hence selling to more customers that will in turn increase income and profit margin.
