About Me

My name is Yusif Lazio. I am twenty four year old lover of soccer. I completed Obuasi Secondary Technical School in Obuasi . I come from Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. I am a very skilled soccer player and played for the school team and I had been playing colts teams and had received many awards. I am going to tell you little bit about my background and my interests.

I was born in a small village called Cape Coast. Cape Coast is located about 70 kilometers south of the capital city of Ghana, Accra which is the 1st city in Ghana. I spent about eight years in my hometown. Cape Coast is famous for its castels and dungeouns which were used to transport slaves in the slave trade era.
My everyday activities are going to my grasscutter farm in our backyard, Apart from soccer being my number hobby, I love to play basketball, traveling, music enjoys reading, watching television, and observing nature and going to church in the evening time.

After spending eight years in my hometown I moved to obuasi where I was born to join with my family. After my senior high school in obuasi I studied computer for a couple of months before engaging in the rabbit farming. I also found a part time job at a local restaurant to help my parents financially just after completing school.

I like watching watching movies preferably foreign movies. I always enjoyed reading, writing and cooking. Growing up as a child and until now, (my adulthood) it has been mine (my) and my parents dream for me to become a Doctor or a Mining Engineer.
Unfortunately I could not pursue my parents dream for me due to monetary constrains. I decided to enter into business just to assist my retired parents.

My Business

The demand for grasscutter meat in Ghana is high with its accompanying price hikes. Hence, the prospect of grasscutter rearing is very bright and encouraging. The Department of Game and Wildlife estimated sometime ago that 80% of the rural population in Ghana depends on game meat for their dietary protein supply . The most commonly consumed species of game meat by those living in rural areas is the grasscutter. Grasscutter meat is also a delicacy in big towns and cities in Ghana. The popularity and delicacy of the grasscutter meat among other reasons led to several studies on the animal a couple of years ago with the primary aim of domesticating the species for large-scale farming and production of the meat for human consumption
Grasscutter is also known as ‘bush meat’in Ghana, and it is the second biggest wild rodent after the porcupine in Ghana. According to statistics, about 80,000 tons of grasscutter meat is consumed annually, but only 0.2 % is provided by domesticated grasscutters. Its meat is highly favoured and preferred in Ghana due to its high protein, low fat and cholesterol content”.
Hopefully Ghanaian job seekers can succeed and overcome the challenges of poverty and food insecurity through micro, small and medium scale grasscutter “Counting the benefits, hence I took the challenge. Return on grasscutter investment is high and fast as people now appreciate the monetary and nutritional values associated with grasscutters and many are showing interest in it”. Grasscutters are the easiest, cheapest and fastest mini- livestock to rear because one female grasscutter can give birth to 6 to 10 litters (babies) at ago.”When they are stocked at four months, they start having babies at nine months, which can be either fattened and sold or re-stocked.” One challenges to include difficulty in getting the right breeding stock and technicalities in breeding them, which I have already overcome them”
“Also patronage is equally very high as we have constant demands from eateries, beer palours, hotels, chop bars, restaurants etc. I begun mine at our family house backyard as a hobby but the high demand provoked me to commercialize it. About three restaurant which I used to sell to are demanding I increase my number. Because of the bush meat, a lot of people are patronizing their meals. The other hotels and restaurants had also approached me to supply them and there is the need to multiply my grasscutter.
