About Me

My full names are Susan Olango.I was born and raised in the city of Nairobi.Being the fourth born in a family of eight kids,my childhood was pretty difficult. My dad was a casual employee and my mum was a stay at home mum. They did their best to take us to school.I did my K.C.S.E in the year 2001 but unfortunately I could not proceed to college as I had four of my siblings at Secondary school. After I cleared high school I started doing some manual jobs to help out with the situation at home.I was able to save some money to start an Ankara business.I saved Ksh.5000 and with this,I was able to buy 12 pieces of the Ankara materials.Due to my great sense of fashion,I was able to buy very beautiful Ankara pieces. As an African woman it's almost impossible not to have an Ankara material to make a dress.therefore, most of the ladies who saw them, couldn't help it but buy them. The demand grew and for my next stock I bought 20 pieces.I come from the Luo community of Kenya.we are based in the Nyanza region of Kenya.we are proud to have a fresh water lake in Nyanza(lake Victoria). Therefore most of the men from my community engage in fishing.i have 6 year old son who is in standard one.I have done my best to enroll him in a good school, and when he grows up he wants to be a doctor.During my free time which is mostly during the weekend,I bake for my family and I sometimes go for swimming with my son.

My Business

My business is purely an Ankara business. The demand for the Ankara materials is relatively high among the African women .Ankara is used to make beautiful dresses like the one in my profile or even skirts.I started this business in the year 2013.i started by hawking the pieces, but as the demand grew I was able to rent out a shop where I can beautifully display my pieces.I buy at a wholesale price of 400 per piece and I sell at 800 per piece, though sometimes my customers bargain.on a normal day I can sell 2-3 pieces, therefore I make almost 2000 per day, though business has its good and bad days.

Loan Proposal

With the loan,I intend to buy more Ankara stock and to start stocking jewelleries to go with the Ankara pieces .I believe this will boost my business as it will create ready stock for my customers and a variety to choose from. The jewellery will help to add more glamour and act as an accessories to the wearers of the Ankara.
