About Me

I am married and a father of 2 children. I graduated from High School and after that I went 5 years to a fashion and designer school and I learned sewing. I currently work in a sewing workshop. I live in Dakar since 1996 and my parents are in Diourbel, a region in Senagal were I am from. I am asking Zidisha for a loan to increase the amount of sewing machines, buy fabrics and trimmings.

My Business

My business is a sewing workshop. I design and sew pants, skirts and traditional suits. The clothing that I am designing is sold to my customer and they often bring their own fabric so I can design what they want. I earn an average of 35000 FCFA with my work selling my suits (the ones I design myself) and also the ones that the customer request with their own fabric. I pay a rent of 50000 FCFA, electric bill of 35000 FCFA and I realized that I can make a profit of 75 000 FCFA. I work with 2 apprentices and I have a tailor that I pay each month 50000 FCFA.

Loan Proposal

I am a designer. I create clothing for men and women. With the loan, I will buy fabric of different types - wax print and hand died - which I will use to create traditional clothing for men and women to then be sold at the market. The ready-to-wear pieces are each sold for 25000FCFA . The loan will allow me to create those ready-to-wear pieces generating a revenue of 500000FCFA. The profit will be used to reimburse the loan in time and the remaining amount will increase my buying capacity for equipment.

Unexpected events have caused me to be late with my repayments, for awhile now my child has been ill and I have been obliged to pay medical bills, which has made it difficult for me to also make the payments. I ask for a new grace period of two months in order to return to my regular activities.

    Dear Lenders,

My name is Michael Riley, the current Client Relationship Manager in Dakar, Senegal. A few weeks ago, I visited Adama at his shop in the Parcelles Assainies unit 17 market. A very large market, Adama has his sewing operation going right in the middle of it. He employs to others to help him and business seemed to be going well when I was there. With the sound of bustling machines pulling beautiful pieces of fabric together to produce splendid traditional Senegalese garments, I spoke with Adama about what he hopes to achieve with this and subsequent loans. He told me that this first loan would be immediately helpful in giving him the ability to purchase more fabric, down the road however as business increases and he is able to save up, he plans to buy at least one more machine so that he can turn out more products as his demand is high. He showed me his accounting booklet and as he flipped through the pages there was not a lot of white space, as he was swamped with orders. Here is a picture of Adama and his team at work in their shop.
Thank you lenders for supporting Adama, a talented designer and sewer.

    Dear lenders,

This applicant's loan application had originally been cancelled because we discovered that the microfinance institution which had provided a reference in support of the application was not reliable. The applicant has now reapplied using a different reference and credit history which we were able to confirm independently.

Should you have any questions regarding this application, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

    Regards,

    Julia Kurnia
    Director, Zidisha Inc.

    Dear lenders,

We have discovered that the lending institution official who had confirmed this applicant's reported credit history was complicit in an attempt to deceive Zidisha by allowing computer-literate individuals to impersonate two applicants who turned out not to have written their own loan applications. We are therefore closing the accounts of the other applicants who had been referred by this official, and returning funds that had been bid to lenders.

Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

    Regards,

    Julia Kurnia
