About Me

I am a Hausa, my parents are Hausa, we live in the center of Niamey, the capital of Niger, by the national museum. I started my business in order to take care of my family, it is also the same business as my father. With the profit I hope to buy some commercial furniture, grains, medication for our health, and pay the school fees for my children, rent for my brother, electricity, water, etc.

My Business

I sell jewelry boxes, stools, picture frames, etc. The customers prefer my work because I deliver good service without fail. My business is profitable because it's reliable and there's never any trouble, no risk at all, at least if the price of prime material and the payments of customers don't deteriorate because of the problems in the Sahel. Both the monthly costs and income vary according to the seasons, but thanks to God I get along, by the will of Allah perhaps with Zidisha I will be able to send the children to school, strengthen my business, etc.

Loan Proposal

I trade in ready-to-wear, off-the-rack goods: I would like to buy jewelry boxes, wallets, key holders, etc., which I would then transport to neighboring countries and sell on, in case there are fairs or markets. I would also tour the hotels here in the city. Normally I can be found in my workshop while I work on my goods.

    Dear Lenders,
My name is Ashlee and I am a Communications Associate with Zidisha. We are currently working to help Monsieur Hachimou meet the repayments he has missed. Besides being financially unable to meet these, we often find there are three main reasons our borrowers fall into arrears: they may have simply forgotten to make a repayment, we may have had trouble communicating with them to remind them of this, or they may have made a repayment but this has not been properly referenced on the bank statement (meaning without confirmation from the borrower, this cannot be entered on their repayment schedule). With regard to Monsieur Hachimou specifically, our biggest challenges have been the latter two; these have been made even more difficult by bad connections and difficult time zones. As we continue to follow up with him, we ask for your patience as we do. We will keep you updated as best we can.
    Thank you for your understanding,
    Ashlee

    Dear lenders,
I'd like to inform you that I have been in touch with Mr. Souleymane Hachimou several times. He was away from the capital for a while but he assured me that he has made 2 payments by now, one for August, one just recently for September. We received quite a lot payments without names (the bank agents very often don't take care of mentioning the names) so we are trying to match names and payments. Now that Mr Hachimou is in Niamey again he will certainly be able to send me the receipt numbers of his payments soon, so that we can update his repayment calendar. Thank you for your patience.
    Mien

Thank you very much, Mien. I appreciate your update on Mr Hachimou and for explaining the banking quirk.

I sincerely hope that his business is working and meeting his needs.

    Dear lenders,
My name is Mien, I am Client Relationship Manager for Zidisha in West-Africa. You may have been wondering why this loan, that has been fully financed since a while and also has been accepted by the borrower, has not been disbursed yet. Since one month we have been negotiating with our partner bank in Niger about free disbursement of our loans. The bank has charged us 11900 FCFA (23,60 USD) for each of the first disbursements we did in Niger. It is clear that Zidisha can't accept such fees and we don't want our borrowers to pay them either. Negotiations go on and may result in the decision to start a partnership with a new bank in Niger. We hope to find a solution during the next few days, in order to disburse this and all the other loans in Niger, and in order to guarantee the future development of our Niger program.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.
