About Me

I was born in 1978 in Dakar. I am married and I have two children. I live at Unit 14 of Parcelles Assainies. I live in the family home. My parents and I are from Dakar. I have brothers, sisters and I am part of a large family of aunts, cousins, half brothers and half sisters. I went to school in Dakar and after that I took sewing classes and now I am a specialist in fashion and design. I spend my childhood in Dakar and I still live in Dakar. I got married there 3 years ago and my wife is a relative of mine and we live in harmony with our children. I am from lebou ethnicity. I am active in the community, I am part of two associations, one at Unit 14 of Parcelles Assainies and the other is the association of professional seamstress of Parcelles Assainies. These organizations are a framework for me to apply solidarity and mutual aid and we are working to improve the quality of life for the population living at Unit 14. Apart from these organizations I am part of the largest Tontine at Unit 17 of Parcelles Assainies led by Bousso MBAYE.

My Business

I am a tailor and I manage a clothing factory. I have two sewing machines and I work with three apprentices. I pay 500 00 FCFA for the rent and I make clothing for men and women. I make a monthly turnover of 225 0000 FCFA and the amount of operating expenses are 150 000 FCFA, with a new sewing machine I can increase the capacity of production of my company in order to meet the increasing demand of my clients that I can not satisfy now. I make traditional clothes, trousers for men and ready-to-wear clothes for men and women. The loan from Zidisha will give my business more strength because the loan that I ask is for the purchase of a new sewing machine. The difference between my company and other sewing companies lies in the quality of service and affordable price, it is a highly competitive market.

Loan Proposal

The loan I wish to recieve from Zidisha will be used to buy two sewing machines, to reinforce my factory production capacity. I foresee purchasing a "217" machine and a simple machine, for my two apprentices, this will benefit my enterprise.

Oh lenders, I ask you to give me two months of grace and I'm sorry for the situation. My company restarted, and I took a month because of my child's illness and I had a huge expense to treat my child and I know this is very hard for me but I should be able to begin {paying back} in about two months.

I am an intern representing Zidisha in Dakar, and I paid Birame Ndiaye a visit on February 15th, 2013. Mr. Ndiaye met me at the bus stop near his shop with a quiet smile and a handshake. Entering the small, dimly lit shop a minute later, I was greeted by two young apprentices, one of whom was hard at work designing the collar adornments of a colorful dress. Although at first he remained unsure as to why I was paying him a visit, Mr. Ndiaye soon opened up about his business, explaining to me that now he has bought his sewing machines and hired apprentices, he needs funding to buy cloth. He stressed that taking dress orders from clients who bring their own bolts of cloth purchased at the local markets is all well and good, but that having cloth with which to provide ready-made clothing attracts a larger clientele. Furthermore, he would like to have the materials to make enough clothing to sell at a monthly market in Mauritania. The market is competitive, he explained, and although during holidays there is ready demand for custom-made clothing, the rest of the time it is important to attract customers with your work. As I prepared to go, he mentioned that, for the time being, he keeps a small pen of livestock to support his tailoring work, bringing me to a small pen of goats and sheep by the corner of the building. The steady growth of his business will help him to support his wife and two children, Mamadou Diarra and Mbodj, the youngest of which is just ten months old.
