I was born and raised in Kakamega county. My parents were staunch Christians who taught us to live a righteous life. I attended Kakamega primary school and thereafter Maaset secondary school. I was not a bright chap so I couldn't continue because of poor grades. I started helping my parents in the kitchen garden and primarily in the care of their vegetable farm. Seeing the good returns that the farm was generating, I decided to venture into it as an independent person. From a soft loan that my parents extended to me, I leased land and planted cabbages. That is what I have been doing ever since. In future i would want to own a lorry that will enable me to transport my produce to big cities where the prices are quite high.
My business entails planting of cabbages and selling them upon maturity. I ventured into this business over 4 years ago inspired by the returns that my family's farm was posting. My biggest challenge has been getting sufficient capital to expand my business to a larger scale. My customers are mainly hotels and restaurants around Kakamega town and in a monthi make profits of upto $ 200 which i use to cater for my family needs and save the rest. In future i want to own a lorry to facilitate me transport my produce to big cities.
Given the loan together with my savings, I will the money to lease more land and buy certified seeds at a cost of $230. More acreage under cabbage farming and certified seeds means more yield and thus more income. More income will translate to better standards of living to both myself and my family.
