I am Janet from Kitui in Machakos County. I come from a family of 8 members, of whom I am the third youngest. My education life was smooth in primary, as my family did not have challenges for paying school fees for us. I went through secondary school, but I did not manage to qualify for the government sponsorship to the university, though the marks I attained were nice for a college diploma course. As I had other siblings in school, my parents could only afford a diploma fees for me, so I joined college for a teaching course.
After getting my certificate, I enrolled in a private primary school as a trained teacher awaiting to be posted by the government through employment. Due to the high number of unemployed teachers, the group of teacher graduates who graduated in the same year as I did are yet to be employed by the government. Though I have been working in a private school for quite some time now, I feel I should go for a degree level in the same course, as the competition for employment for [teachers with] bachelor's degrees is less and the pay is better.
I plan to join school in May, and I have been able to save ksh. 50,000 for fees. The fee requirement is ksh. 70,000, which I hope to raise once my loan application is considered.
I am single, hence no kids and I support my family very much. I like reading during my free time and I am an active youth member for my church.
I have no business going on yet, though I plan to do some investing in beauty business in the future once I get the capital. For now, I wish to pursue my education first: that is why I am now applying for financial support from Zidisha.
Once I get the loan, I will be able to repay without challenges, as I will pay the same from my monthly savings. This is because I plan to study part-time, so as to continue making savings from my current job and also to be able to repay the loan. I hope I will be funded soon, thank you in advance.
After getting the bachelor's degree, I will be able to secure a better paying job in a high school, and the posting will be fast due to high demand of teachers in secondary schools.
