About Me

My name is Anne Wanjiru. I was born a fifth child in a family of six children. My father was a public officer and my mother a peasant farmer. I saw my father work very hard to put food on the table and raise school fees for his six children since his pay was inadequate. It was through his small business that my father was able to put as through high school.

Now an adult and single mother of one, I've noticed how hard it is to live a comfortable life in our current economy. It is only in business that one can attain financial freedom. Through business, women and youth have empowered themselves and others. I've realized that with business one can go far. It is for this reason that I started a business selling second hand clothes .

My Business

I started my business almost a year ago selling cosmetics and second hand clothing. I chose this kind of business because I am passionate about fashion and looking good/smart at all times. At first I sourced for a shop to sell my second hand clothes which was doing well until I got a job at a college in my area. This meant that I employ someone to take care of the clothes business. I later fell while hanging an item on a wall and broke my right leg, I was put a plaster on the leg and stayed in the house for four months. This was very challenging for me since mobility was a problem. I later resumed my full time job and was only able to managed the business in the evenings. I later decided to close down the shop and sell the clothes to my colleagues and students at the college during my free time i.e lunch break and weekends.

Although I cannot compare my current profit from what I was earning while I was in full time business, I do not complain as I am getting a monthly salary from my employer and something small from my side hustle - the business.

In addition, I decided to advance in my career and that meant I go back to college for an undergraduate degree. I have already been admitted and pursuing a course in Bachelor of Business and Office Management at a local university. I am now in my second year of study and I intend to use the Zidisha loan to pay part of my school fees.

Loan Proposal

I work as a full time secretary in the public sector. I would like to advance my skills as and my current pay is not enough to take me to University.

This loan will help me register for a Degree course in secretarial studies at a local university and therefore advance my skills. After acquiring the degree, i will be able to advance in my career and this will enable me cater for my needs and that of my son.

I would like to thank my lenders for the support they have given me this far.
This is the third loan that I am applying.
I used my last loan to pay school fees for an undergraduate programme in a local university. It enabled me pay my first year, first semester fees and I was able to concentrate with my studies without any worries.
I am currently in my second year of study and I believe this loan that am currently applying for will help me pay fees for the first semester in 2nd year.

I would like to thank Zidisha for this far and my lenders who have had trust in me and assisted me. Thank you very much.

The sales for the past two weeks have reduced. This is because most of my customers who are students in a nearby college are busy preparing for examinations. They depend on money given to them by their parents which they receive at the beginning of a semester, now that the semester is almost coming to an end, the students have already spent their money.

Thanks to my lenders, so far i've been able to include beauty products to my shop. The products are moving at a slow rate since most of potential clients are not aware of them. Hoping that these products will gain popularity soon.
