Having interest in drugs and the rampant malaria and other minor illness in my community, I learnt about various drugs and their applications. These were only on first aids; I was also trained on how to read prescription forms. My father helped me to acquire a licence, and now I'm a full-time [pharmacist]. Business has been good since I started. It is a requirement in Ghana that every drug sold must be prescribed by a medical doctor. I have worked in this field for many years now and I can boast that I'm very experienced now.
I like listening to music a lot. I have through this business owned a cocoa farm in one of the villages called Asikasu, where I visit on weekends.
I sell all sort of drugs, pain killers such as paracetamol, asprine, etc. I have blood tonics, plastics and spirits for wounds, antibiotics and many more. From where my store is located has no drugstore in that suburb, and this offers me the opportunity to get market [share] and [therefore] my customers are many. Business in health drugs are lucrative, only that it is capital intensive. Acquiring a licence for this purpose is not easy in Ghana. One would ensure he/she has prepared a well-ventilated room to store the drugs. Had it not been the effort of my father, I wouldn't have reached this far.
Running a drugstore to have all the required medicines is very expensive. Once I have in stock some of the drugs,I would want to add to my stock the following. Six packs of paracetamol syrup for children $19, four boxes of cough mixture $16, two boxes of spirit for dressing wounds $10 and finally plasters $12.
