About Me

I am a 28 year old born in the village of Gem in Siaya County, Kenya. I am the last born in a family of five (2 boys and 3 girls). I have studied up to standard eight level and did not proceed further to high school due to lack o school as my parents were very poor and couldn't afford high school fee.

The reason unto why I started this business was that my husband is unemployed and could not sustain the whole family in terms of education and even basic needs like food. We live in an area where finding a meal for the day is a forgone case we only take meals once in a day. Joblessness among youths in our country has also led to this since there is a growing population and the job opportunities are few. I therefore came up with this idea of starting a business which is growing at a faster rate due to the fact that they are consumable products. The money i get from the food kiosk I use to feed my family and again help the community members who are in dire need through our local women group. I like participating in community betterment activities.

I have four children and my eldest son would like to be a teacher when he grows up.

My Business

I have an ongoing business of selling fresh fruits e.g. mangoes, oranges, tomatoesm avocado, sugar cane, beans and dried fish in Kombe Trading Center. I started my business through the little savings I pooled after 2 years of hard work in people's farms inorder to raise up US$ 200 to start the business. Due to increased growth in my sales, I need to have a good kiosk/house that will also help in preservation of fruits since they are perishable products. With the loan of Ksh 9,130, my income will increase and more customers will depend on me due to the fact that my sales are reliable and consistent.

Loan Proposal

I intend to purchase 3 bags of beans at a cost of 6,000 for retailing at my food kiosk. Beans are in big demand now and the loan will help me to buy this precious commodity that many households like to buy during weekends to cook as for their children due to it's nutritional value. Through this loan, I will be able to generate much income because the problem of storage will also be catered for under the Ksh 3,130 budgeted for food kiosk refurbishment. The income will grow by 30%.
