About Me

My name is Robert Kaguma, born in Central region of Kenya. I went to school up to secondary level and then joined a college where I was trained as an auto mechanic.

I worked as an artisan for about two years and later decided to change business. This is where I decided to sell used and new clothes for five years.

I then relocated to Mombasa and changed business to selling food spices which I have been doing for the last 7 years.

I am married with 3 children all grown ups. I am a hard working, go-getter person because I believe handwork and honesty pays.

My Business

My business is based in Mombasa in an area called Majengo - outskirt of Mombasa town. I deal with buy spices in their raw state, then ground them, package and supply to retailers.

I source my raw materials locally and from neighboring countries. There is a huge market for this product in Mombasa which is famed for spiced cuisines.

I make a net profit of $550 a month. The sales are constant all year round but it can pick slightly during the month of December due to festivities and also during the Ramadhan season.

I would like to stock more raw materials if given credit and that I why I have joined Zidisha. This credit will go a long way in boosting my stock hence increase my efficiency in my business.

Loan Proposal

As I stated in my profile, I deal with buying and selling of species. I live in Mombasa famed for its Swahili and Indian cuisine which uses a lot of spices. I buy the spices from neighboring countries then sell them to wholesalers.

The main reason for asking for this loan is that we heading to ramadhan season when the demand for the spices peaks. I have orders which I am unable to fund with my current savings and getting credit from local banks has proved very difficult.
If lent the $150 that I am asking for, I will spend it to buy 100kg of dry chilies at $130 and the remaining balance will cater for transport costs.
