About Me

I am a teacher by profession and I own a pre-primary school located in Majengo area of Mombasa city. The Kenya system of education requires that a child undergoes 3 years of pre-primary education at age 3 years before joint class 1 at an age of 6 years.

I was born in Mombasa and I recently graduated from Pwani university doing with a degree of bachelor of education in early childhood. Am the last born in our family. I am married with two sons who are still in school. My husbands helps me in running the school.

I am a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church where I play an active role in church activities. I also participate in community work from time to time.

My Business

My school has a total of one hundred children distributed as follows, Pre unit 3 - 40 children, Pre unit 2 - 30 and Pre unit 1 30 children respectively. Each child pays $35 including a feeding program.

Most of the children come from the nearby slum areas where they are living under poverty that's why a feeding programme is a must. I have employed two teachers who also work as caretakers of their respective classes.

My business has made steady progress over time due to hard work and good will from the surrounding community and of course the support of Zidisha.

Loan Proposal

I run a kindergarten within Mombasa town in a poor neighborhood called Majengo. The population within this area is largely made up poor families. The government of Kenya does not offer free education to pre-primary kids. This is where private people like me come in and that is the main reason why I started the school.

I charge a very minimal fee per pupil but enough to get the basic activities going. I started a feeding program this year but I have met a number of challenges key among them lack of utensils to prepare the meals. With this loan of $150, I intend to buy two big cooking pots which will make the work of my cooks much easier. The money I get from charging the pupils for this program will enable me to repay the loan comfortably.

Thank you.
