I was born in Rusinga Island in Lake Victoria, Kenya. Rusinga Island is a semi-arid area and the main economic activity is fishing. Being the 5th born in a family of ten children, my father was a peasant farmer and fisherman. He was a soldier in the 2nd World War. My mother was a peasant farmer.
I did both my primary and secondary education in Rusinga Island though I did not continue to College due to lack of College Fee. After my high school, I ventured in small-scale farming in a land given to me by my father. It's adjacent to the lake and I have tilled this land for the past 7 years. Farming is a very good business in this area as many people are involved in fishing and hardly get time to invest in farming.
Rusinga island is the home of Proconsul (early man), many tourist do visit Rusinga Island for excavation of remains of the early men and wildlife.
Farming is the core business that supports my family. I do plant bananas, tomatoes, onions and vegetables. The fact that Rusinga Island is adjacent to Mbita Township with an estimated population of about 14,000 people, the fresh farm produce are in high demand in this area. In a very good season when I invest about Ksh 9,000, I do get about Ksh 7,000 as a profit per season. With good seedlings and equipment, I will be able to plant more crops and get more harvest for good selling this year.
The money realized from the farm are being used to meet my family needs and educational cost for my four children in Primary School and 1 High School.
I am seeking a loan of KES 13,994 to enable me purchase the following items;
-Buy horse pipes for irrigation at a cost of KES 3,500
-Seedlings = KES 4,500
-Pesticides and insecticides =KES 2,000
-Fertilizers =KES 2,000
-Seedling Papers =KES 1,000
The ZIDISHA loan will enable me to expand on my business as well as creating employment to unemployed youths in my village. With improved and quality production of indigenous tree seedlings. my business will rapidly grow.
