About Me

I am Rose Anyango Okinyi, I was born in 1976 in Kasgunga Ward, Mbita Sub County of Homa Bay County. I was the 6th born in a family of 7 children. My father was a fishermen and my mother was an house wife. I was brought up in a very loving and disciplined family.

I went to public - funded schools until I completed my primary school, but I did not continue with my education due to lack of funds to pay the school fee. I therefore opted for marriage in 1992 and I have 6 children. The 1st born has completed High School and waiting to join College to pursue Clinical Medicine. My 2nd born daughter has joined College and pursuing Certificate Course in Teaching. My farm business is doing very well and it's what is helping me and my husband in meeting food, medical and education costs for our children.

I come from fishing community that lives in the shores of Lake Victoria, men are fishermen while women are mainly fish mongers. I chose farming since there's shortage in food production and many people are faced with acute hunger.

I love watching nettball, swimming, and meeting new people. in my free time I do visit my fellow community members and actively participate in development activities.

My Business

I am having a small-integrated farm where I practice organic and low external input agricultural methods. The farm is doing very well and it's helping me to meet my food needs. I have planted fruit trees in the farm like; grafted mangoes, paw paw and oranges. Fruit seedlings are in high demand in Mbita as many palatial homes are coming up and they all needs fruits. Having assessed the market demands, I started the flowers and fruits plants farm three years ago using the KES 11,000 that I had saved from my short-term engagements in menial jobs. The business is doing very well and I need tools to enable me produce more fruit plants and meet the huge market demands. I look forward to getting help from ZIDISHA lenders to enable me expand the business rapidly as I remain faithful in repaying the loan.

Loan Proposal

Our region is currently experiencing good rains in this April - June rainy season, many people are seeking tomatoes, onions, vegetables, seedlings/plants. I need a loan of KES 9,526 to enable me buy farm tools like rake, jembe, wheel barrow and assorted seedlings to enable me plant fruits and flowers for sale. I look forward to getting a loan funds from ZIDISHA to enable me meet the demands of the clients.
