ABOUT ME.
My name is Esther Mweru Karanja, a single mother of a 9 year old son called David Karanja. I was born and raise in a remote village name Mairo-inya in central province in Kenya. Laikipia county. I went to school at age of five like most of the children from my village. We use to play in rain looking after the cows and helping our parents to run various errands.
HOW I OVERCAME HARDSHIPS
When i finished my high school studies which was characterized by hardships and school fees challenges, i followed my dream to Airtravel & Related studies Center where i pursuit a diploma in Travel .However, i still had challenges of school fees and at times i would go to do some manual jobs to raise my school fees.
HOW I STARTED MY BUSINESS
After my college studies i started looking for job. I went to top Travel Agencies in Nairobi and even beyond. I sent my resumes to all Travel and tours companies but none got back to me. I started loosing faith and trust in papers and even contemplated changing my course to something else but i did not have money to go back to college. I started doing manual jobs to keep me going as i had to eat, dress and pay rent. by this time i had stopped depending on my parents who had stared complaining of economic hardships. In the month of June, i applied for a contract job at certain company. I got it and i was given fifty thousand Kenyan shillings after working with them for about a month. I went to a friend who advised me to start a simple salon.
My Business
My salon business began with a capital of fifty thousand shillings only. Using one hair dryer, two blow dryers ,one washing sink, a few set of rollers and combs. I was able to employ one person who was a relative at that time. And was able to buy chemical products and hair food oil. At first the income was so low as not many people knew of my business. however with time people became conversant of it and with good marketing skills and posters around they started coming and my business build up. Initially i would make as low as two hundred shillings a day which was too way low as compared to the expenditure i was to pay. As time went by, three months later, i was running out space as clients would come requesting for my services. I am now looking forward to buying more salon equipments and hair products.
I will use the loan to buy another blow drier (50$) and a Pedicure basin (70$) used to clean clients feet and chip inn some of my savings to buy flat irons (120$) for straightening and drying clients hair because its on high demand.
Currently my profit are 500 to 1000 kes which is 10 us dollars per day depending on the clients who visit the saloon. as i have employed two workers to help me in running the business i pay each one of them 150 kes daily and the rest i use it to pay house rent and other utilities, monthly i can gain a profit of 200 us dollar which i use for my child school fees and our upkeep.
If i were to be funded and be able to buy those above items my profit will increase by 60% and my clients will get all services in one place not having to move around hence satisfied. Helping me to be able to service the loan.
Thanks you in advance , God bless you as you fund my loan.
