About Me

I am Patrick Okoth, a male Kenyan citizen aged 30 years old. I am the 3rd born in a family of 5 (all boys). I was brought up from a humble background with lots of life challenges pertaining to access to basic needs and education. I and my younger siblings used to walk 3 miles every morning to go to school and stay the whole day in school without food too eat at lunch time!

My parents were peasant farmers and I learn't environmental management from their on - farm activities that they used to incorporate us into. Having completed my Primary Education and got married, I ventured in horticultural business. I believe in fresh grown vegetables and I do plant trees in my farm to help in improving forest cover in my village in order to combat climate change.

Our marriage has been blessed with 4 children and are very hardworking at school and have been successfully passing their exams. My wife is helping me in the farm.

I like playing local football and reading newsletters especially on organic practices of agriculture. I do participate in religious activities though as a moderate believer in Christianity.

My Business

I am involved in organic farming practice in my small-scale horticultural food farm in Mbita where I grow onions, tomatoes, kales, vegetables and maize for both my family consumption and surplus for sale. I started this business fiveyears ago, the business has been doing so well and I have started to get a very good and reliable clients base.

My farm is multi-purpose as I keep a small indigenous tree nursery that I tender trees and seedlings of different varieties for afforestation and landscaping to various sectors including local public primary schools and churches. During the rainy seasons I normally go round to asses the progress of my goods at various places

From my farm, I harvest upto 500pcs of tomatoes on average per day . This amounts to a monthly income of KES 22,000. I have many customers because I have the best of what they need. I put alot of effort in my work , moreso sell to my clients non-GMO foods which are in great demand. I water the plants with the water I pump directly from Lake Victoria . Repaying the loan will be easy for me because in the same piece of land I grow maize of my own while during dry season we harvest dry them and sell.

I am seeking a loan of KES 9,012 to enable me purchase the following items;
-Irrigation horse pipes =US$20
-Seedlings = US$20
-Pesticides and insecticides =US$10
-Grafted Mangoes =$20
-Maize Seeds =$30

This will enable me to expand on my business as well as creating employment to unemployed youths in my village.

With the improved seedlings, I expect my harvest to double this season and farm returns to skyrocket. The project profit increase of 40% will be used to repay the loan and meet my family basic needs.
