About Me

I am Esther Ogutu, 53years of age. I am married to Mr. Olela Odongo of Kasgunga Ward in Homa Bay County. Our marriage is blessed with six children (4 boys and 2 daughters). Am the 2nd born in a family of 6. Grew up in a rural set up hence adhered to the hard times and tough conditions but I thank God I made it through. Attended primary education in my rural village of Mihuru in Homa Bay County hence started having a keen interest in owning up my own business in future.

I did not continue with my education after sitting for my primary education final examinations in 1980. I got married and since my husband was unemployed, we had a good opportunity to start an income generating activity that could financially support our young family. This is what led us to start small-scale poultry keeping in mid 80's and we have done it on a relatively small scale but on a sustainable basis to date.

My hobby is watching nettball and visiting the needy in orphanages and hospitals whenever am free.

My Business

I am doing poultry rearing (indigenous chickens for meat and eggs laying). The business has been facing a series of challenges due to chicken sicknesses and lack of chicken vaccinations. I am seeking a low interest loans to enable expand my business and do a profitable venture as there's a huge demand of eggs in my Mbita community as this is a fishing community and eggs are in high demand.

My eyes are still set on my long-term goal of being one of the major egg producers in my locality. I will certainly not be able to realize this goal without continuing to expand my business. I now have 150 chicks that I bought and have started to lay eggs that I supply to local hotels and other establishments with a good return. It is for this reason that I want to expand my business further to meet demand for eggs that I know for sure will still grow.

I now wish to improve my old dilapidated chicken house in which I will be able to house a big number of layers. This is with the aim of realizing my long-term goal of being one of the major egg producers in my locality.

Loan Proposal

I am seeking a loan of KES 85,625 to enable me purchase solar-powered lighting and Egg Hatchery Machine that in total would cost a total of KES 43,000. The difference of KES 40,000 will be used to buy 100 chicks for keeping in my poultry farm, I will use KES 2,625 to repair my poultry housing.

The new loan will enable me to improve my income by 40%. Thanks to ZIDISHA lenders for financially supporting my business.

    Hello Esther,
It is great to see your good pay back record and the expansion of your business. A photo of yourself, with your expanded business, will certainly attract lenders. For the credibility and reputation of Zidisha, Kenya and even yourself, any understanding of what happened to your colleagues Damianus Ajwang, John Odundo and David Orato will also help.

Your repayments have been timely. However, you were invited by Damianus Ajwang and you invited two members: none of these three have adequate repayment record.
