About Me

I lived in a ranch in Nyeri where I always served as the cook. I cooked for all the workers in the ranch. I enjoyed it, it was my first job since I graduated secondary school. Also, it happened that the ranch owner was my aunt and she was nice, not only to me but to all other workers. Whatever cooking method I didn’t know I could access it from my aunt's recipes. This made me love the job even more because I had the opportunity to grow my knowledge and experience. Sadly, my aunt had problems with her bank, which resulted to the ranch shutting down. She had to sell the property and everything in it so she could pay her debt. I left the ranch in tears, and went back to my home in Murang'a. I cried, not just because I had lost a job but because I felf for my aunt, who had just lost everything, and for all the people who worked there. I stayed home for about a month, spending my days thinking about the problems and many hours in the night crying. Finally, I decided to start a job of my own. Cooking, I loved to cook for sure so that's what I had in mind for a business. I rented a small kiosk in the neighboring shopping center, Makuyu, and started my food kiosk. I'm grateful for the job as I get to do what I love and earn myself money, also creating a job opportunity for others to work as I have two youths working as waiters.

My Business

My food kiosk, which I named after my ex boss and aunt, "wambui cafe" is in the small market center of Makuyu. I run it, working as the cook with the help of two employees. We serve local food, among others ugali, chapati, githeri and mukimo. I have faced a lot of challenges running the cafe, one being lack of clean water in the area. Hard water, which can only be used for washing is available. Fresh water for drinking and cooking is sold by vendors who supply the market like once a week and not consistently. At times, I have to close for days due to lack of water.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan loan to buy a water tank to store fresh water for use in the food kiosk. This will ensure fresh water is available at all times and business will run normally.
