About Me

My name is Kevin Murumba Sifuma, I am a second born in a family of four. Currently I reside in Uasin Gishu county, Eldoret town in an estate called Kimumu.
I work as a lecturer/ systems administrator at Nairobi Aviation College. My role entails lecturing ICT courses and taking care of the institution’s ICT systems.
I graduated from Moi University (main campus) in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Information Science, IT major. The course equipped me enough knowledge to facilitate my day to activities. Apart from the bachelor’s degree, I have also enrolled for other professional courses i.e. MCSE.
My ICT background and experience in the field has inspired me to start my own business entity which I have registered with the county government. The business’s name is Techwizz Business Solutions and it is located in Eldoret town, Oginga Odinga Street in Kim’s plaza. The business offers computer services which include: software development, web design and development, skill based training and networking services. The business generates income from the services offered to our clients and some of the products sold including computers and computer parts. The money generated is used to pay bills of the business premise which include rent, wages, and utility bills. More so, the business uses the income to buy assets such as computers, blowers, networking tools, printers which facilitate the day to day activities of the business. The rest of the money is used as savings in the name of the business.
Apart from ICT I have also invested in small scale farming. The farm is located in Kimumu on family land. On the farm I have 60 chickens which are dual purpose i.e. for meat and eggs. Their breed is local. These chickens provide approximately two and a half trays of eggs per day which are sold locally. The money generated from this sale is used to purchase food and medicines for the chickens. The farm has also other expenses including wages and utility bills.
During my free time I like to unwind. I play rugby as a scrum half in Nairobi Aviation Eldoret campus and also act as an assistant coach for the institution’s rugby team. I also enjoy watching and playing football. In the local league I support AFC leopards and in Europe I support Manchester United. I also enjoy watching educative documentaries on national geographic and movies and series where I get to learn one or two things on technology in the developed world.
I am a social person who enjoys working in a team setting. I have been a member of several youth groups and initiatives. My membership to these groups has equipped me with the discipline to borrow and repay loans. I would therefore like to join the Zidisha community of lenders and borrowers so that I can advance my career ambitions as a businessman and also to become of help to other people in future through lending.
Lastly, I am a Christian and a member of a God fearing church, the Holy Pentecostal Church.

My Business

The loan money will be used to expand my farming business. The business will in turn service the loan with a back up of the salary I get from Nairobi Aviation.
The farming business is located in Kimumu area. The main venture of the farm is chicken rearing where I currently have 60 chickens. The main aim of this project is breeding. I would like to interbreed these local breeds with exotic breeds so that I can at some point have pure breeds which are robust and can be sold in other farms at a higher price.
Currently, the project produces averagely two and a half crates of eggs per day which are sold locally to the local shops. This generates an income of averagely five hundred shillings per day that is reinvested in the farm in form of feeds and medicines for the flock. These eggs from local breed chickens are rare in urban setting with the market being flooded with eggs produced by broilers. Research has shown that most people are going back to the indigenous eggs which are referred to as “fertilized” and are scientifically proven to be healthier. As a result there is a shortage of these eggs in the market making it a worthwhile project.
Apart from eggs, the chickens are also sold at intervals to generate income. They normally hatch on a monthly basis in a controlled environment and are disposed after three months, with the older generation being sold to pave way for the younger generation. This is also a product that is on high demand in the market in both the hotels and supermarkets and other meat outlets like butcheries. The market has been flooded by broilers which take a shorter time to mature and have been in the recent past been seen to be less healthy than the indigenous breeds.
The business has also got its risks. The major challenge comes in the form of diseases that normally kill big number of chicken. These diseases normally come in form of outbreaks that affect an entire sub – location and kill large numbers of the chicken. The diseases that are most common include Newcastle, coccidiossis and pests. Apart from diseases, there is also the issue of theft. Most of the youth in the area are jobless hence tend to opt to use shortcuts which include stealing. Other challenges include predators.
At the moment the farm generates an average of two hundred US Dollars from the sale of eggs. Feeds, wages and medicine cost on average eighty US Dollars monthly giving a net profit of one hundred and twenty US Dollars.
The loan will assist me to construct a modern chicken house and purchase modern drinkers and feeders to help cope with the challenges. This is because the modern house will restrict movement of the chickens and hence help control the spread of diseases and pests. The house will also help protect the chicken from theft and predators. If the risk factors are reduced the objectives of this proposal will be met hence the loan repaid comfortably. My salary from Nairobi Aviation will act as security in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

Loan Proposal

when i get this loan I will use it to improve my chicken farm house by modernizing it. The loan will be used to purchase materials that will be used to construct the modern farm house.
The modern farm house will have a safe place for the chicken to stay at night away from the cold and predators, it will also have a playing area that will double up as a place for feeding and drinking water.
This modern chicken house will also ensure proper laying boxes to prevent the chicken from eating and cracking the eggs after laying them. This will increase production since the hygiene of the chickens will be monitored and in case of an outbreak it will be easy to control. Vaccinations will also be easy to administer.
After the construction of the modern chicken house , farms production will improve in terms of more eggs and healthy chicken.
I request you to support me improve this project since it has a great chance of expanding and improving my welfare.
