About Me

I am the last born in a family of four children. I was brought up by my grandmother who in turn breastfed me since my mother (a widow) died when I was 3 months only. We grew up in a very rural and poverty stricken village of Kasgunga in Homa Bay County. I grew up in Mbita Sub County, where I studied through primary school though I did not proceed to High school due to lack of funds to support my further education.

My early life was very difficult, I got married at a very tender age and did not live with my husband for long, he died 8 years ago when were ten years old in marriage and left me with 4 children (2 sons and 2 daughters). My eldest son did not proceed with high school due to lack of school fee and has since married. My 2nd born (daughter) has struggled with her education through support from well wisher and has now joined College on holiday basis. I am the sole breadwinner for my family at the moment, I did not get inherited me after my husband death according to our Luo culture but opted to remain a strong Christian.

I am a fresh fish vendor. I buy fish from the fishermen and dry them up for selling in the evening to traders taking them to other big markets. I sell on a daily basis. The funds raised go into ensuring the continuity of my business and the profits are used to pay for my children's education.

I am very active in community development issues and I am representing our village in various women economic empowerment groups My hobbies are singing and consoling the bereaved.

My Business

I trade on fresh fish (sardine). Most people prefer dried sardine due to the health benefits related to it. I chose this kind of businesses because their is a guarantee of sales on a daily basis. A batch of sardine fish I use on a single day costs 5,000 shillings. After sales I make 700 shillings per day as a profit. The profits go into my children's schooling. I wish to expand my business to be selling fish of KES 10,000 Kenya Shillings, and estimate revenue after sales to be 1,400 daily. I also wish to expand my business and hopefully employ a few other people as the business grows so that I can serve my clients efficiently and on time.

Loan Proposal

I am seeking to raise funds to grow my business and make it more sustainable. The loan fund of KES 15,016 will go into adding my fresh fish stock size The benefit will be increased sales and a probable growth in profit margins of between 1,000-1,400 KES. With the growth of the business, I can be able to employ a few other young widowed
ladies who are unemployed.
