About Me

I am Michael Sarpong. I am 23 years old. I am the first born of my parents with two siblings. I completed senior high school with a very good grade but could not join university because of finances. So I worked in the informal sector selling mobile phones for one year, until I was able to save funds to pay for my tertiary education. I am now a final year Bsc. Dietetics student in the University Of Ghana. I started my Hawaiian shirts business in the year 2012 during my first year vacation. This was to help finance my education and to prevent idleness as I stay home. Even after school resumed I didn't quit because it turned out successfully. I love to play football and dance to music. I also like searching for information online. My dream is to own a boutique, have a dietetics consulting firm and engage in a large scale agribusiness(rearing and selling of cattle)

My Business

I started my business in the year 2012 during my first year vacation. This was to help me finance my education and to prevent idleness as I stay home. The business turned out successfully and even after school resumed i didn't quit because it turned out successfully. I used to sell the Hawaiian shirts in school by visiting the hostels. I also send the Hawaiian shirts to offices for sale. I just started a wholesale boutique where retailers come in for the Hawaiian shirts for sale.I do advertise the Hawaiian shirts on whatsapp and instagram where clients give me their sizes, with description of color of the shirts they want and i deliver them to their offices in a good package style. My shirts are affordable and very attractive. My shirts suit every occasion too, therefore the demand is higher than what I have in stock. Thus, I will use the loan to invest in the business to increase my production. Every week I make an average sales of 500 Ghana Cedis which is equivalent to 157.11 US Dollars. I am sure that i will make turn around business especially now that i have started wholesale business.

Loan Proposal

My school fees is 985 cedis which is approximately($295) I paid 70% of the fees which is 689.5 cedis ($206.85) during the first semester. So I have 295.5 cedis ($88.65)more to pay to continue the second semester. I reside in a hostel in which we pay 300 cedis ($90) per semester. In total I need 595.5 cedis ($178.65) to pay my school fees and my hostel fees. Thus I'll use 595.5 cedis ($178.65)of the 732 cedis ($219.6) for my school and hostel fees and use 90 cedis ($27) of the remaining 132 cedis ($39.6) to purchase 6 new shirts into my boutique. The remaining 42 cedis ($12.6) would be used for transportation and pocket money. I buy a shirt for 15 cedis ($4.5) and sell it for 30cedis ($9). Therefore I make a profit of 15cedis ($4.5) after selling a shirt. I pay my employee 30% according to the total number of shirts he sell a week. He's able to sell approximately 30 shirts every week.

    Hello Lenders,

Last Saturday with the help of two of my classmates, I organised a pre-mother's day health screening for the Women's Movement of a church at Tema, a city on the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic coast of Ghana. Though the screening was organised for the women, we had some men participating.
We had about 50 participants. We measured their heights with the stadiometer and their BMI, BMR, visceral fat , total body fat, skeletal muscle mass and weight was measured with the body composition monitor. Their blood glucose level was measured with a glucometer and their blood pressure was also measured with a blood pressure monitor.
    Every participant paid $1.29 (5GHC).
All the participants had the privilege to be educated and counseled on healthy eating.

    Hello Lenders,

I hope you are all doing great. Last Friday I went to St. Francis Xavier Basic School and Ministry Of Health Basic School to educate and screen the teachers.
I measured their height, weight, BMI, visceral fat and total body fat.
Unfortunately, I couldn't take pictures. The turnout was great. I had 25 teachers from St. Francis Xavier Basic School and 28 teachers from Ministry Of Health Basic School. It was tedious working alone.
I have purchased a Glucometer out of the money I had.

    Thank you.
