About Me

I am a young Kenyan lady, married with one baby girl. After I left High School, I trained as a Beautician and Hair Stylist. School was not always easy especially when studies have to be conducted with minimal resources like books and laboratory equipment available. Fees would not always be easy to get. However, I would get past these challenges to finnish my high school and training. Dressing up in neatly pressed uniforms and well-done hair always uplifted my spirits. I came to develop a spirit of maintaining a good look as one of the many ways of making a possibly bad day better. Currently, I work at a Beauty Salon in the Nairobi Central Business District. People in Nairobi, especially women, are quite conscious of their looks. This creates a niche for people engaging in the businesses of Beauty products and services. For a start, I decided to take up the Job at the Salon as a way to build some capital,to get some equipment for the business I intend to start. I have managed to save some money I feel can help me in the process of starting my own shop. The job also has given me the opportunity to have an insight into how the beauty industry works. At the moment, with 2 years experience, I feel ready to make the move and start my own beauty shop. I have managed to purchase hair dryers, Cosmetic products like facial cream, hair relaxers and skin lotions. I sell some of these products by walking them into the Local beauty shops located away from Town. I literally hawk my products and I'd be glad to have a centralized shop from where I can operate. Am looking forward at the prospects for the shop that i intend to open once I have all I need in place.

My Business

In my business, I intend to offer services akin to those my boss offers but in a different location, Industrial Area Nairobi. I have bought a starter pack that includes Cosmetic products and hair beautification tools. For Services, I intend to start with Hair Treatment, Hair Plaiting, and Hair Cutting. Once the business picks, I will venture further into facial and skincare services.
For Products, I intend to sell Hair treatment chemicals, both as part of the services I offer and as off the shelf purchases. I also have skin Lotions. I hope to widen my scope once the business grows. This business offers goods and services that have a good demand which is most likely to be sustained in the near future. At the moment, I sell the skin lotions and cosmetic products by taking them to local beauty shops for sale. I have 5 shops to which am a regular supplier of small quantities of these cosmetic products. On average, I sell products worth Ksh.15,000 (150 USD) a month. Deducting transport costs leaves me with (Ksh.10,000) 100 USD. Since I spend a lot of the time at the Salon in Town, I don't get the opportunity to sell more. I only sell after work and during the weekends. That's why I would like to get my own shop and start my business with the resources I currently have. I need the loan to top up the rent for the new shop. With the shop, I will be able to have a central point from where I can offer my services and host my products. I also get to access passer by customers. Currently, the income I get from the business, I use to pay school fees for my daughter Jasmine and I get to save at least Ksh.4000 (40 USD) a month

Loan Proposal

I would like to purchase a hair dryer and hair relaxer gels for My salon. Currently, the biggest source of my income is plaiting and sales of cosmetics. I would like to expand the source of income by incorporating hair treatment. I have received many requests by my current clients to add this service so that they do not have to go to neighboring salons incase they need hairstyles other than plaits. I will start with a single dryer, and purchase of subsequent ones will depend on the demand volume. With this dryer, the need for a help hand will increase especially after more people are aware of the availability of the service. The equipment will cost me Ksh.15,000 (USD 150). I will also a starter pack of hair relaxing chemical and gel at Ksh.5000 (USD 50). I will have to employ a helphand to help me with work volume in the event that an increase in service demand occurs. It will be an extra job created as a result of the loan I get from Zidisha. I project this equipment to increase my income by Ksh.8000 (USD 80) once established. The extra income will be saved and used on the extra employee, when need arises. I look forward to the support of Zidisha and lenders on the forum. Thank you in advance.
