About Me

Being the 4th born with 3 brothers and 4 sisters and both parents were primary school teachers in the village, my childhood was challenging. Our home had no electricity or piped water and we had to trek several miles to fetch water. I promise myself to work hard and ensure my children were going to getter a better life than I did.
My parents struggled to educate me to college level and I graduated with a diploma in Information Technology at the Kenya Polytechnique. While still in college, I decided to venture into business in order to sustain myself while in school because my parents were already enduring a huge burden of paying my fees and that of my siblings. I utilized the knowledge I gained in school to do services to people for a fee like Web designing, laptop and computer repairs, software installations, networking and with time I realized I was making more than I had anticipated when I set off. With the high rate of unemployment in the country, I decided to grow my business after graduating rather than going home and search for a job which were not available. One reason why I enjoy my business is because it’s directly connected to my hobby, of online networking and socializing. I get to spent equal time having fun while still doing my job.

My Business

Using my savings while in college, I started a Cyber café business in my neighborhood. My business offers internet browsing services, printing, photocopying and scanning of documents, computers and laptop repairs, web designing services selling of DVD movies and training on basic computer applications. My services and goods are in demand for various reasons. In Kenya majority of the people have embraced the change to digital migration positively and level of internet usage has gone very high with many people relying on the internet in their work. Internet connections to the houses in many parts of the country are not widespread and therefore many people rely on cyber cafes for internet services. Many people also rely on DVD movies for entertainment because going to the cinemas is relatively expensive with a DVD going for KSH.50 while a movie ticket selling at KSH.1,000.
I chose this line of business because of my passion for the business and secondly because its in line with the course I took in college. Another reason is because it’s a line of business that is growing at a very high rate in Kenya and the returns are good.
The main expenses include rent, electricity, internet, and purchase of blank DVD cds and printing paper. The business gains revenue from the sale of services. I use the income to take care of my expenses, support my parents and siblings and reinvest in the business because am trying to upgrade the systems in my cyber café and replace them with more advanced computers.

Loan Proposal

I plan to use the money I raise from this loan to upgrade the computers in my cyber café business. When I bought this business, majority of the computers and systems were functioning poorly and I can attribute this to the reason why the previous owner decided to sell it. I have been upgrading the systems a few at a time because of the capital requirements. So far I have replaced 5 out of the 15 computer CPUs and I can say that my business has improved in terms of client service satisfaction and income returns. I will use this loan and top it up with my savings to purchase 2 more CPUs which I am buying for kshs.20, 000 (219.78US$) each and they both will cost me US$439.56. With these new CPUs I will be able to attend to more customers and my profit margin is set to increase by over 50%. I am able to make weekly loan repayments from my current business operations so there is guarantee that the loan repayments will be made in time. I will use the increased income to continue upgrading the computers in my cyber café until all of them are functioning efficiently. I also plan to employ an assistant to help me in the business and also continue supporting my parents and siblings financially. It’s my hope and determination that my business shall grow and from there I will open more branches
